I worked at Timken (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of talented people, committed to doing a great job. Easy to work together, ethical people. Timken attracts talented people with great qualifications, so you'll be surrounded with people who know what they are doing and care about doing it.

    Cons

Leadership priorities adjust often, but rationale not always shared with the associates. Message seems to be: "It will all make sense when we are done. The plan will become evident."

    Advice to Management

Need to articulate a long-term vision, and show consistent steps toward achieving it. Transparent communication and regular updates are key.

    Pros

    Decent pay for this area

    Cons

Upper management treats you like dirt, the place is filthy and hot and you might as well be a number as a name. The only way to advance in this company is to be a yes man and kiss up to the right people...disgusting!

    Advice to Management

Fire every Division Manager you've got and start over with some skilled individuals instead of just butt kissers.

I worked at Timken (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good solid family-owned local company

    Cons

They were allowing very arrogant jerks to be in charge of projects and becoming managers. I believe they have seen the light a little since when I was there.

    Advice to Management

Quit using scare tactics in pressuring lower management and workers. Also do not allow arrogant project leaders to bully other project team members.

I have been working at Timken full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexibility to work from home if needed, depends on manager, not all departs are allowed

    Cons

They haven't promoted anyone in my department on 5 years! Other people retire or quit and they don't replace them and we inherit their workload. That has happend for the past 5 years, and haven't been given raises for the added workload, which is a insane amount, or the promotions for doing the work of people that were at a higher level than you in the department.

    Advice to Management

Promote your people who work hard so you don't lose them!

    I worked at Timken full-time

    Pros

    Coworkers are very talented individuals.
    Immediate supervisors are competent.
    Lots of interesting work.

    Cons

Upper management is on a cost reduction spree and that means first your backup, then your position.
Every time someone leaves they don't replace that person, so that means more work and stress for everyone. A single person can only plug so many holes in a ship...

    Advice to Management

You can't grow sales and improve the corporate quality by sacking positions everywhere. Most of the remaining employees are already overworked. If it continues, quality will continue to slide and result in even more loss of revenue.

Back off on the justification of research for the business units (weekly reporting, monthly updates, or at least review the reports and respond to issues that are reported).
