I worked at Timken full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent place to work until The company moved to SC.

    Cons

Many people in upper management were aware of a very poor, mentally abusive manager but never did a thing about it. Due to me knowing to much about his discressions was let go when the opportunity came up to cut people. He ruined me as a confident employee and person.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people, pole the employees. Have them rate their manager. Don't let a bully take control ever again.

I worked at Timken full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are decent and will relocate employees for career development.

    Cons

No diversity, unless you consider aging white men diverse. Majority of plants are in small back country towns. Aging manufacturing plants along with an aging workforce. They only cost saving initiative they have is laying off employees. Good old boys network. If you are not in the club your career will not go anywhere.

    Advice to Management

Try to move into the 21st century as an employer.

    Pros

Money was good, very fair offer, make sure you counter the initial offer. Learned quite a bit and advancement is very possible and encouraged.

    Cons

Very conservative culture. People sit at their desks, working or not. Never made any real friends. No real comradery or socialization.

I worked at Timken full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay was decent but I got the feeling that not everyone in the same position was paid in the same pay range.

    Cons

Company workforce is built on generations of family members, some in management and others on the floor. If you are an outsider coming in and you discipline one of their "friends" they will find a way to get rid of you.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to be a boss and stop catering to the people you like.

    Pros

As an intern I was given a lot of project responsibility. I got to work on something that mattered and was used by the rest of the time and I even got to see it implemented before I left. The people who worked there were very friendly. I also got a decent amount of networking as my manager actually scheduled me to meet with various members of the company.

    Cons

Employees were underpaid and some full-timers were clearly overworked. The overall culture could kinda get stale too as everyone was pretty much trapped in their own cubicles. I was not located at HQ though so it may be different there.

    Advice to Management

Revamp the atmosphere, make the job one that employees want to go to.
