I have been working at Tinker AFB full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Compensation and benefits. We have excellent benefits which makes it tough to leave. The flexibility allowed is second to none.

    Cons

Accountability and lack of creativity. Management avoids holding individuals accountable for actions and sometimes lack the creativity to motivate. We are a unionized environment which sometimes diminishes managements ability to be creative.

I have been working at Tinker AFB as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Tinker was a very stable place to work at and had great time off and benefits. There are some great people there.

    Cons

Tinker lacked competitiveness and had a low income/no housing pay for an engineering intern position. There were not many opportunities to move up.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Tinker AFB full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

"Job Security" is the main positive. Being federal civil service. Strong AFGE union. Competitive pay hourly. Excellent health insurance, retirement benefits/plans

    Cons

1.Professional (degree required) positions do not seem to be competitive in pay with the private sector and 2.salaried professionals regularly do and are expected to work over 40 hours per week. 3. Very hard to get hired. easy to be labeled "qualified" but history tells and it is common knowledge that it depends on "who you know" whether or not you actually get hired.

    Advice to Management

People making job selections need to be 3rd party management with no ties to the shop or position hiring for. This way, the interviewee actually has a chance to be hired if more qualified than the "boss's wife's 2nd cousin's nephew" hypothetically speaking, of course.
