I have been working at Tokyo Joe's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The work environment is fast-paced and you do get a great discount for the food when you work there. You also get to meet many kinds of customers and also engage in plenty of activities to do.

    Cons

The management and supervision is terrible and often times unprofessional. I have seen way too much of supervisors telling workers about things they should improve on or not do in front of clients. That is unprofessional, rude, unnecessary, and makes the relationships with the customers awkward.

    Advice to Management

Consider your lower-status workers' wants in the work environment and do not attempt to embarrass them in front of clients by talking down upon them. Instead, find a common ground with the worker in recognizing problems in a mature and professional manner.

I worked at Tokyo Joe's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Met some great people, and didn't get paid too poorly. My first year was great. The job isn't too complicated, but isn't usually boring.

    Cons

In my last year of employment the turnover rate was really bad. We couldn't keep anyone around and the company as a whole was restructuring.

    Advice to Management

Maybe pay managers and assistant managers more what they deserve and make raises more worthwhile. It's disheartening when your assistant manager who works 10x harder than you only makes $1.35 more an hour than you.

    Pros

Amazing company. Makes you feel like a family.

    Cons

They expect you to be there even if you can't be. Sick, death in the family, vacation you previously had requested gets denied.

    Advice to Management

    Appreciate everyone.

    Pros

opportunity to become trained in sushi, opportunity to get extra hours by covering shifts at other stores, healthy food mean not coming home smelling mike grease, Free meal each shift

    Cons

short shifts, knit picking, and a lot of passing the buck. They tend to overwork the best workers. Not recommended for parents. The scheduling is too inconsistent and when it gets slow they start sending people home.

    Advice to Management

Don't hire people that have bills to pay if you don't have the hours to offer. I suggest looking for high school kids or college unless you intend to pay more and allow longer shifts.

    Pros

free meals during shifts worked, most of the staff is friendly and hours are flexible for the most part.

    Cons

Staff that has been at the company for a year+ tend to be very aggressive and short haired. It can feel very clicky at times and can make for a difficult shift when you're working with people that literally don't like you for no reason. the pay is very very poor making it difficult to want to stay. Its too laid back with something's, which should be a fire able offenses, and too strict on other things, that shouldn't really matter.

    Advice to Management

Increase pay, show more support to your employees.
