I have been working at Toledo Public Schools part-time

    Pros

good pay, the are amazing at working with your schedule, very lovely staff at the main office.

    Cons

every day is different. some days you are expected to change the diapers of kids 5-10 years old and your constantly on your feet and somedays you are bored out of your mind and the teacher doesn't need you to do anything and it feels awkward because you don't want to seem lazy but the teacher isn't giving you anything to do. so you just sit there while they teach your lesson and its really hard not to pull out your phone or in my case laptop and do homework on those days because honestly why should you sit there and do nothing when you could be being productive?!

    Advice to Management

I think that management does a great job i don't have anything bad to say about it! i do think it would be great if you could Let your teachers know that not all paras know everything that needs to be done in their specific classroom. i was never trained on the daily para things. i started with a semi permanent position in head start so i don't have any experience in the classrooms i am subbing in and it would just be nice for the teachers to know that if they want something done they should ask for it. i have had a teacher call and tell the office i was lazy and did nothing but "sit down all day." but i offered to help them with different tasks and they declined because it was something they could handle alone. Not to mention they never asked me to do anything specific so i was just waiting for a tiny bit of direction on their end which i never got. i helped when it came to obvious tasks like getting the kids ready or snack time and lunch and cleaning up but other than that how would i know that she wanted my help grading papers or organizing things?

    Pros

Toledo Public Schools was a good school system to work for. I found it to be a dependable and reliable source of income.

    Cons

The one con would be that the salary is not competitive with other school systems in Ohio.

    Advice to Management

Increase the annual salary for teachers.

I worked at Toledo Public Schools full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you love kids then that's for you

    Cons

Politics, there are some administration people are not fun to work for. Especially some PRINCIPLES. Some are very nice, but some are are so full of them self. They make it very hard to work for you to feel confident about yourself.

    Advice to Management

Don't through you under the bus. Especially when you have people that worked for you for 16 yrs. Just to have one person like a principal ruin it for you. Stop having so much bullying of your loyal special education workers to have them be sick all the time. Wish I could do something about it.

    Pros

mentoring and support was helpful to ensure that you are comfortable in your working environment which was not something that I had with other employers.

    Cons

payscales always changing which can be frustrating for longevity. They expect you to continue to achieve more credentials for less pay
