I have been working at Tom Douglas full-time

    Pros

Best company to work for in the restaurant business. The owner actually cares about every employee, offers unheard of benefits and wages for all team members. Good employee discount.

    Cons

Top management seems extremely disorganized. Hard to advance past assistant manager level. Work life balance can get way out of wack, managers in particular must work much more than the job description describes.

    Advice to Management

Keep on trying to be the leader in the industry.

I have been working at Tom Douglas (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to shift roles in the company. Most employees are kind & fun to work with. Good starting wage.

    Cons

There seems to be an elite circle of people who have been in the company for a while, and even while working extremely hard and putting yourself out there, you're very unlikely to break in and truly advance.

I have been working at Tom Douglas part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company is like a family. They take care of you and want you to succeed. They care about the food and service. The motto is deliciousness served with graciousness.

    Cons

The pay can vary greatly by restaurant and season. Shifts can be uncertain and therefore so can the money. Have to maintain 25 hours a week for benefits which can be as a server in off season. Some managers have been there too long and aren't very good anymore but loyalty is their strength and weakness.

    Advice to Management

I wish there was more time for managers to be on the floor. Mostly during shifts they are glorified hosts. Keep asking for greatness every year so it keeps getting better not worse.

I worked at Tom Douglas part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Generous employee discounts, great family meals, great team atmosphere both between and amongst back of the house and front of the house.

    Cons

Not too many complaints here, if you have a problem or think something can be improved, management is always engaged and listening. If your solution is a good one, they will quickly implement it.

    Advice to Management

Keep hiring terrific managers and great people. Tom Douglas is a first rate company to work for and it was an enjoyable experience.

I worked at Tom Douglas full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good Benefits and decent pay. They allow you to switch restaurants if you want. Growing company.

    Cons

Bad managers. A lot of people who have jobs in the company because they've been with it for so long. Not because they are actually qualified for the jobs.

    Advice to Management

Leadership needs to come from the top and it doesn't. Upper management is so focused on expanding, they neglect the other businesses.
