I have been working at Tom Douglas full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

We are empowered to make sure our guests leave happy. Open door policy. Internal promotions are encouraged. Care about employees.

    Cons

Restaurants have a low profit margin, but a high workload expectation. It requires a lot of time for not as much pay as other industries.

I have been working at Tom Douglas (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to shift roles in the company. Most employees are kind & fun to work with. Good starting wage.

    Cons

There seems to be an elite circle of people who have been in the company for a while, and even while working extremely hard and putting yourself out there, you're very unlikely to break in and truly advance.

I have been working at Tom Douglas part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company is like a family. They take care of you and want you to succeed. They care about the food and service. The motto is deliciousness served with graciousness.

    Cons

The pay can vary greatly by restaurant and season. Shifts can be uncertain and therefore so can the money. Have to maintain 25 hours a week for benefits which can be as a server in off season. Some managers have been there too long and aren't very good anymore but loyalty is their strength and weakness.

    Advice to Management

I wish there was more time for managers to be on the floor. Mostly during shifts they are glorified hosts. Keep asking for greatness every year so it keeps getting better not worse.

I have been working at Tom Douglas full-time

    Pros

Best company to work for in the restaurant business. The owner actually cares about every employee, offers unheard of benefits and wages for all team members. Good employee discount.

    Cons

Top management seems extremely disorganized. Hard to advance past assistant manager level. Work life balance can get way out of wack, managers in particular must work much more than the job description describes.

    Advice to Management

Keep on trying to be the leader in the industry.
