If you are not part of the in crowd, it's a bit harder sometimes.

I have been working at Tooele County School District full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The students are fantastic, and the majority of parents will help if asked.

    Cons

The district is so far removed from their employees that I was told by a district employee that my opinion counted for absolutely nothing, and that i should stop asking questions.

    Advice to Management

Care about your employees, and practice a little transparency.

    Cons

The district administration is out of touch, and cares about nothing but the bottom line

I worked at Tooele County School District full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great administration and faculty. Newer schools with AC and clean, bright classrooms. Most of the schools are easy to commute to from Tooele and from Salt Lake. Kids are nice. Parents are not very involved.

    Cons

Tooele School District is one of the lowest paid districts with benefits, salary and yearly raises. The district office is very out of touch with the local schools. It's time for them to really push for a tax raise for the area's education. And the state of Utah and education can be tough with merit pay, paperwork, teacher tests and teacher requirements.

    Advice to Management

Less administrative work for teachers. More pay in order to compete with other districts and other states.

I worked at Tooele County School District (More than a year)

    Pros

Being a substitute Teacher was great for the flexibility of working when I wanted to. The Aesop system is great and offers Substitutes the opportunity to see their ratings from Teachers, which is a really useful tool to know how well the classroom was run in the teacher's opinion.

    Cons

Be sure to print off your Aesop rating list periodically because it will not be there after you are no longer employed. If you're not getting calls it's because you need to be calling in every day, also teachers have their favorites so you got to find ways to get them to be impressed by you.

    Advice to Management

I don't have any advice to the management. Everything is great. The Supervisor is wonderful to work for. I really like her tips on how to get calls that she posted on the website.

    Pros

Good pay for a part-time job.

I have been working at Tooele County School District full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Progressive. Using Common Core. Developing the entire district as Professional Learning Communities

    Cons

Very stressful keeping up with and complying to constant changes/expectations which might just come with the territory.

    Advice to Management

Focus on 1 big thing at a time and give time to master that before adding another big expectation. i.e. working on PLC goals, PE grant requirements, and common core transition all at the same time.
