    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Toronto Community Housing full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great benefits, place to learn life skills and apply them to your life, become aware of challenges faced by the multicultural and disabilities person face in Toronto and daily life. Made great friends in company both tenants and colleagues. When you have a great team that is supportive the work is fun and enjoyable to do

    Cons

Union doesn’t support employees that needed it most. Bad management forgot about policies, laws and legislation they don’t apply unless it can be used to discipline “undersirable staff”. Favouritism towards certain employees and bias against others. Allowing tenant representatives to believe the my are the site boss of the staff... nonsupport when this does happen.

    Advice to Management

Easy, follow the laws and policies that govern us, then make decision based on facts not feelings and be compassionate to employees and tenants. Learn to distinguish tenants in help from the tenants that want to abuse privelages. Get a stable executive management leader would help a lot.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Toronto Community Housing full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good people Good benefits Great work-life balance Plenty of opportunities.

    Cons

Wasted money Wasted time Wasted energy Departments work in silos and work is often duplicated or unnecessary in the first place. Tons of staff online shopping to fill their 8 hour shifts. Very typical unionized environment. Just work with your head down and don't challenge the status-quo. Nobody has time to implement real improvements.

    Advice to Management

Lots of talk about listening to employees and making positive changes but all of this is completely symbolic, just more wasted money on consultants and nothing ever changes. Results get buried and forgotten until the next inquiry or lawsuit.

I worked at Toronto Community Housing full-time

    Pros

Good Salaries, though not competitive with the City. Some of the employees are truly passionate and dedicated to better the lives of the vulnerable tenants. One can live up the vision to improve the lives of the marginalized if opportunities present themselves.

    Cons

Extremely political environment. A lot of competition among Divisions, back-stabbing among management staff. Favouritism from senior management to managers. Senior management spent most time on talks, paper-game on planning but refused to understand that challenges at ground level issues. A lot of time/effort spent on inter-Divisions and interpersonal competition and very little productive work was accomplished. The...
