    Pros

Free beer and wine tastings. Pretty much the only pro working there. Not much else.

    Cons

Management is garbage. They very much separate themselves from everyone and always just huddle together at the wine bar and yell at you to keep doing something when they aren’t doing anything themselves. And there is absolutely no work life balance.

    Retail nightmare!

    Pros

The training for wine associates and for management for wine is great . If you didn't know much about wine before, you will within 6 months.

    Cons

Long long shifts, 12 hour days are the norm. There is very little work life balance-if that means anything to you, then working here is not for you. Request days off, that are not holidays, are rarely given. If they are, trust me, they are really doing you a favor. The operations and computer infrastructure are from a bygone era. Tasks that could take 15 min take much longer which is very frustrating. Store management overall treats their employees terribly. Wrongful terminations are typical. If you are liked then anything goes-otherwise you are let go. People are not held accountable or held to the same standards on a consistent basis. This is probably why the turnover is so high.

Great company to work for, if you are passionate, capable and hard working

Aug 19, 2015 - Store Manager in Los Angeles, CA
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

-Tremendous growth opportunity. -Company is evolving and is entering a very exciting and dynamic phase of expansion. -Wages are above average for retail. -Benefits are more than competitive. -Significantly more full time opportunities are available at entry level positions than most other big box retailers. -Opportunity to learn about craft beer, spirits and wine and be trained by other like-minded beverage enthusiasts. -Free wine and beer for life opportunities for many (but not all) positions. -Tremendous opportunity to learn and grow and get promoted.

    Cons

-Not for the faint of heart. Successful people at all levels must be competent, passionate and hard working. -Not a great fit for those without drive, initiative or a desire to be entrepreneurial. -Have to be willing and able to work long hours at times and make occasional work/life balance trade-offs (despite what other reviews say, this is the exception during holiday season, not the general rule year round...it is retail after all). -1/2 hour lunches are a thing. -Company is evolving and maturing and needs to add even more talented people.

    Pros

Free wine. Opportunities to make process improvements.

    Cons

There are no flexible work options and it's at least a 45 hour work week. This includes inclement weather. Everyone has to commute but there is no public transportation option. I don't think the employees are valued. There are few ways which the owners make work-life balance easier and you have to work extra during the holidays but never get the time back. Process/system improvements can take a really long time to be implemented.

    Don't even think about it

    Pros

Great coworkers, lots of learning about alcohol, discounts on said alcohol

    Cons

Managers promising to promote you then changing their minds, they would rather hire from outside than promote from within. There is no work/life balance with many long shifts (10 hours plus) with little time in between. The schedule is erratic at best, so good luck with getting on any sort of eating/sleeping pattern. Many people quit without a job lined up just to get out. Managers don't care about keeping people, they just try to squeeze as much out of you as possible like a tube of toothpaste. Too much work is placed on too few people and then management is upset when it is not done.

    Pros

-Smart people -Growing company -New leadership - Discount

    Cons

-Incredibly high turnover. I'm referring to the corporate office, not the store level, which is also extremely high -Management does not do a good job of understanding employee morale and taking corrective action -Work /life balance is no existent -The company prioritizes its growth
