    Pros

Some of the Sr. Managers are long-tenured and respectable. Able to develop productive relationships with peers.

    Cons

There is a complete and total lack of communication within the organization. Everyone feels like they are scrambling to produce a substandard product, for customers and employees. Each department only focuses on its own strategy and goal which creates a total lack of continuity within the company. It's a complete "me first" attitude. Ultimately, no one reaches their goals because the company continues to underperform.

The expectation is that everyone go above and beyond for a company that does not acknowledge the hard work being done by the employees. In many cases, this is at the expense of a personal or family life. On some level, this sacrifice is not worth the compensation (or lack thereof).

Don't be fooled by the number of job openings posted. From the inside, this does not feel like a company that is actively growing. There is no professional growth available here, so do not expect to do more than what you're currently doing.

    Advice to Management

Find a way to fully align all departments with a common goal, so that everyone is accountable for the performance of the organization. As corny as it sounds...a simple pat on the back would go a long way. Create a program to develop the talent within the company. Show people that you are willing to invest in them.

    Pros

    Insurance, pay, Christmas party, gym

    Cons

Hard to make friends. Just because someone is smart and "gets" it doesn't make them a good manager. Some Managers are cruel and harass their employees. Management is sent too many directions. People are jumping ship because it's too chaotic trying to keep up. Why aren't Manager's doing more to help us all in these major transitions? Coming in late and taking two hour lunches results in unproductive days.

    Advice to Management

Get involved. You just throw major projects at your employees without any direction and sit back and laugh when we fail. What kind of person are you?? You're a sadistic type.

    Pros

    Relationships, staff, and overall benefits

    Cons

Company changes direction/focus on a routine basis. Knee jerk reactions by management are common place and numbers rule the day. Hired a bunch of Sr. Executives that have no business leading an organization and/or have come from organizations that have failed in the past. Their is no "common sense" leadership and all the "glue" employees have either been let go or left on their own. Customers and employees appear secondary to profitability. How can you expect to your employees to take care of customers, when no one is taking care of them?

    Advice to Management

Downsize Sr. Management level, empower your staff to do the job they have been trained to do. That's what made Tower Hill in the first place.

    Pros

Great group of coworkers, weekly sponsored lunches, a gym and extracurricular activities.

    Cons

There is a cabal of people who started at this company 15-20 years ago who are now in AVP/VP/CUO levels. They will not listen or implement employee recommendations. They will only do what the owner asks them to do (which is capricious and a moving target). They will not be fired or replaced. Politics and turf battles rage daily. The owner has brought in several C-suite executives over the last three years that have failed to turn the company around. Instead of promoting from within, they hire from without at companies the executives used to work for. Employees that could run departments - better than those currently in place - are exiting. Existing employees are being asked to do more for the same pay. HR is powerless even when serious concerns are raised. Company strategy wildly sprays across the map as they struggle to retain market share and profitability. New product? New market? New acquisition? New CEO? Another new CEO? Write policies? Now cancel those policies? All par for the course and it's incredible how the management responsible for errors and bad judgement are not held accountable. To all the employees - no, you are not crazy, this place is really that out-of-joint with reality.

    Advice to Management

Clean house - get rid of the plethora of AVPs, VPs, and C-suite people who got you into this mess. Develop a true succession plan, kill the nepotism and politics, and promote the most talented people.

    Pros

Reasonable boss, ample opportunities to find self satisfaction. Have been given timely raises. Weekly catered lunches are delicious.

    Cons

Lack of appreciation and interdepartmental communication. Also has a flawed idea of productivity for analytical job titles. Expects you to be productive 100 percent of the time.

    Advice to Management

Relax work environment for those who are working careers that are mentally draining throughout the day such as analytic positions. Would help boost our efficiency more.

    Pros

Employees are extremely talented, smart, and a joy to work around. In truth, it's the only reason anyone stays. Has potential to pay well if you can stick around long enough and stomach the constant stress born from the seeds of conflict and confusion inherent in poor leadership at the top ranks.

    Cons

Quietly downsizing. Many folks that bought into the "we're your family" culture years ago discovered it was a lie. Fear permeates systemically in all departments. I heard this was especially true in IT where a bully rules and thrives under the auspices of Corporate Goals. Human Resources appears to have been rendered powerless to protect the employees. And so, the voice of the people who work together in hopes of one day having a decent work environment cannot be heard over the brutal march forced upon them by a misguided Company that has lost its way and forgotten the Golden Rule.

I have been working at Tower Hill Insurance Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I love my coworkers and most of the people throughout the company are friendly, helpful and pleasant to work with. The company is stable and has good benefits.

    Cons

Many of my favorite people have recently found new jobs or are actively looking, and this is occurring in multiple departments. There are a lot of unnecessary work deadline pressures due to poor and unrealistic management goals and decisions. It's understandable if this happens every now and then but this has become the norm for several years now. Employees with sound advice are disregarded and it's harder on those who must complete the work. There's also minimal appreciation for those who keep their noses to the grindstone but may not be the shining stars of their respective teams or departments. Very sad. Upward movement for many positions is limited. Unprofessional management behavior is apparently acceptable because it continues in spite of complaints. Even when it isn't directed at you, it's extremely upsetting and distracting when it is witnessed or overheard because it's that loud. This company now has a predominantly fear-based environment.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate all levels of employees - not just the exceptional - as it takes all of us to perform the broad spectrum of tasks that keep a company successfully running. Treat everyone with kindness, professional courtesy and respect. If you aren't an expert in certain areas, listen to those who are skilled and respect their experience and abilities and trust that they're sharing their best information with you, even when it isn't what you want to hear.
