    Positive Outlook

I worked at Town of Gilbert, Arizona part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of materials to create fun projects with the kids. Pay is great as a side job for teachers or stay at home moms who only want to work a few hours a week.

    Cons

Had to come up with projects completely on my own which can sometimes be time consuming for the 2-3 hours of pay.

    Advice to Management

Work on schedule to build in more classes

I worked at Town of Gilbert, Arizona full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Positive culture, trying to redefine the way the town performs, set goals to "Best of Class in all lines of service" made it easy to align work to

    Cons

As a municipality there are a lot of hoops to jump through to get stuff done, town council is very polarizing versus community need

I worked at Town of Gilbert, Arizona full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Being family owned business you are treated like family. The employees are very hard working and awesome. You are guaranteed 40 hours a week all year long.

    Cons

Hard work and during harvest the hours are long. Not much room for advancement, most employees are making minimum wage for long periods of time.

    Advice to Management

Employees should be getting more decent wages and more raises for their hard work. Overall I would say management is great.

    Pros

    Friendly Staff. Knowledgeable Staff.

    Cons

The Town runs way to "lean" and prides itself on it. Yet the staff is overworked. Lack of accurate staffing results in temporary/contract/limited term agreement positions being utilized. The town does not value the idea of strength in numbers. All staff is flooded with way to many permits, applications and reviews to be completed. Many sections/departments would generally be 30-50% larger in amount of staff with the given amount of projects coming into the town. Many of the long time employees have left the town, leaving several vacancies throughout the town. Upper management does not value the very few people that actively want to stay employed at the town.

    Advice to Management

Hire more staff, reward the staff you do have, and create less of a case load for all departments. Look at all the people you have lost to other cities in the last year, and why you've lost them. Overworked and underpaid for the amount of work they are doing. Realize that employees wouldn't complain about salary as much if they had less work they were responsible for. Look at how many people are on staff in other cities.

    Pros

STAR Performance Management System is utilized but has an unproven track record in municipal government....it is more geared towards the private industry as an added bonus and not a sole means of compensation.

Re-evaluate the current performance appraisal system....please!
