I worked at Towson University full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Much of the faculty/staff has social justice attitudes but their hands are often constrained by the narrow thinking administration.. There is a diversity among the student body but sadly, more outside of the College of Education. Great library and staff to assist student bodies.

    Cons

LOW salaries! Old buildings. Poor parking. UN"WOKE" administration. Too much funds going to sports and not to academics.

    Advice to Management

GET PROGRESSIVE. Listen to your staff. Act on what you learn/hear from them. Pay your faculty competitive rates.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Towson University full-time for less than a year

    Pros

None Towson is a terrible place to work.

    Cons

Low salary, poor working conditions, salary was cut and frozen several times in a year. Office was a shared space with peeling paint, no heat, no air conditioning, and no Internet access.

    Advice to Management

Adopt a for profit model, with few if any full time faculty, as Towson seems uninterested in retaining them.

I have been working at Towson University

    Pros

The location is the best reason to work at Towson. Towson is located between Washington and New York City. If you like urban areas, their location is ideal.

    Cons

Lack of transparency in management practices; administration does not apply procedures specified in handbooks; lack of shared governance (high ranking administrators make decisions with disregard for faculty voice).

    Advice to Management

The cons above indicate the areas that need to be improved. Administrators should apply fair and transparent management practices, follow handbook procedures, and listen to faculty voice. A new president is coming in at the beginning of 2012, so let's hope she improves things.
