I worked at Toyota Motor Corporation as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Management is supportive. Great collaboration among teams. Great work/life balance. Good pay. People are generally respectful. Company is very good about allowing a flexible schedule when you need it (ie. doctor appointments, personal emergencies). You can stay here for many years as a contractor if they like you.

    Cons

I didn't move to Plano as I much prefer the CA lifestyle. I'm very concerned about how this company will change over the next several years. The people newly hired in Plano aren't as sharp in general as the people that were with the company in CA. They have really struggled to find top notch technical talent as most of it is on the coasts and not in Dallas. Also, TFS is very bureaucratic, so be ready for a lot of red tape. Lastly, they don't allow remote workers, so you're expected to be in the office 5 days a week.

    Advice to Management

Look to be more nimble and make a sincere effort to cut red tape. Though you pay well, you will need to pay even more if you want to attract top talent in Dallas as the top technical talent will need a good reason to move there from the East/West coasts. Lastly, you need to allow remote work. Maybe once a week to start and at least see how it goes. You could have held on to a good number of top performers in CA if you had offered this.

  3. "Great place to work... Innovation a challenge"

I worked at Toyota Motor Corporation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. Great people. Good comp and bonus structure. Managers and above get a car. Respectful, family focused company. Hard to find that mix anywhere.

    Cons

Big company disease case study. Hard to make progress. Lots of money spent on planning, discussions, consultants and not on doing. Company has no appetite for risk - money noted above could have been spent on investments, acquisitions, etc. Partnerships are even hard to do. Innovation focus is on the cars, not on company innovation. If you are wired to do and do fast, get ready to slow down.

    Advice to Management

Be innovative. Don't just talk about it. Do it. Fail fast.

    Pros

TFS is a good company to work for, pay is fair (not the highest) benefits are great. Entire compensation package is one of the best.

    Cons

Never happy with IT, the CIO changes about every 2-3 years. Can't focus on a direction of delivery, in-house or out source.

    Advice to Management

Focus on a IT strategy and stay the course.
