I worked at Toyota North America as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Paid overtime is a rare engineering perk.

    Cons

    * Company does not attempt to practice good people management. They are only interested in goal achievement with no concern for people.
    * Work/life balance is non-existent at this major manufacturing plant.
    * Having worked for many companies, the use of engineering skills is nearly non-existent.
    * Some are told contracting is a way to get your foot in the door. Do not buy this as some individuals have been there for years and asked for permanent hiring to no avail.

    Advice to Management

Change your Respect for People policy to actually show some human respect.

I worked at Toyota North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Stable company. Some perks such as espresso machines.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic. The company modeled itself after 50's American companies and never changed.

    Advice to Management

    Bring in some fresh blood!

I worked at Toyota North America full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

For the first 6 years of working there, I'd say it was an excellent place to work at. I was involved in interesting projects, and enjoyed the work I was doing. The last year there, the department focus changed, my job description changed, and my job satisfaction plummeted.

    Cons

Toyota underpays their engineers pretty much across the board. I took a significant pay cut to come there, and it was only partially made up for by the very good (not excellent) benefits.

There is little recourse if you're not happy with your current work. I told multiple managers many times what I enjoyed doing, versus what I was not interested in doing, and didn't feel like I was being heard.

If you get a bad manager, woe be to you. You will have little recourse, other than transferring to another department, or quitting.

The HR department is basically useless, and the people there are changed like socks. So even if you educate them on a situation, they won't be around long enough to do anything about it or help you out.

    Advice to Management

For a company that says respect for people is a core tenet, my experience was just the opposite.

I worked at Toyota North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good health benefits with a half-way decent salary.

    Cons

Job descriptions are not accurate. Many false expectations are set as early on as the interview process. Work-life balance compromised greatly.

    Advice to Management

Be truthful to incoming employees. Try to provide employees with the tools necessary to be successful. Stop it with the clique-ish nature of certain departments and the not-so-very-well hidden fraternizing within said departments.

I worked at Toyota North America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Used to have excellent benefits but now they are just really good, good work life balance, stable place to work, company car lease program is nice,

    Cons

Management is hit or miss like every other company, if you don't know people you will not move up at all, can get black listed, pay is really low. Company stopped caring about their employees and focused on their profits.

    Advice to Management

nothing they can do, the move to Texas makes them a normal big corporation car company like most of the rest.

I worked at Toyota North America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

great place to work for. good culture and developments. Best place I have ever worked. no other out there is this good.

    Cons

worked there for 30 years and made one mistake and was released. They say they care about their employees and yes they do. but we are all human and you should not be let go for a incident that nobody was hurt.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to your employees, let them know that you are there to help them and not to be surprised when an incident happens and you are surprised. you have good people working for you and I personally gave my life to care for the customer and you threw me out like trash after 30 years. not fair at all. need to focus more on the associate more.
