I have been working at Toyota North America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Structured company with a lot of experience to share with anyone with the right attitude. One must be willing to learn coming into this job.
    - Opportunity to gain hands on experience and have real responsibility that can impact the outcome of projects.
    - Competitive pay and bonus for the length of experience.
    - Good benefits such as 401K matching, vehicle lease program, medical, dental, and vision for entire family.

    Cons

    - Lack of autonomy giving to the Toyota R&D in North America, making it similar to a contract house for Japan.
    - Decision and responsibility for many items is still kept in Japan. (Example) Part X is made in US, however design is in Japan. US person knows of problem, however cannot make change to improve condition without much discussion with counterpart in Japan.
    - Long working hour due to many TV meeting with Japan. Minimal investment in technology / IT on Japan side to improve this condition. Honestly, everyone has had Skype for a year or two now and TMC will not use it!?!?
    - Limited advancement opportunity due to fix company structure caused by re-organization after One Toyota.

    Advice to Management

    - Need to move decision making for NA developed projects to NA. We should not have to report to Japan.
    - There needs to be a push on the Japan side for people to embrace IT tools such as Skype to improve communication.
    - There needs to be a some consideration for how to motivate people in the middle of the pack with the new organization. Can start to feel like there will never be any recognition.
    - After OneToyota many people that were in the right place at the right time were promoted just before the merging of the companies. People that were on rotation or overseas assignments were largely forgotten during this promotion round, only to hear from their management that the company structure was fixed and there was not any opportunity for them on return.

I worked at Toyota North America (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work environment, cool event perks, interesting projects to work on.

    Cons

You can and likely will be replaced at any time. New model year rollout season is usually plagued with chaos due to poor planning from the upper management. Also don't get used to sitting in one place very long, they shuffle the cubicle deck like every 6 months or so it seemed.

    Advice to Management

Plan ahead more - give your employees time to do a good job.

I have been working at Toyota North America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The CEO Akio Toyoda has a vision and deep integrity. There are many good people at the company trying to do good things.

    Cons

It's a very difficult time in the organization. They've gone through an internal merger which has caused chaos. Leadership may not have the skills to address the new world and the highly structured way of managing is not appealing to curious, proactive thinkers and doers.

    Advice to Management

Toyota's way of doing things isn't necessarily the only or best way of doing things. Loosen the grip.
