Reduce the amount of only Japanese controlled employees in America

I have been working at Toyota North America full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company has a bold vision for future mobility and the financial resources to realize it.

    Cons

Company is an overseas affiliate to a headquarters in Japan. Decisions are made in Japan, so US role is market sensing and reporting to Japan. TV meetings during US dinner hour are regular requirement that can make work-life balance challenging.

    Cons

I have been working at Toyota North America full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I have very flexible work hours
    They provide good benefits
It is a clean, professional work environment
On site cafeteria, credit union, gym, and sports fields
    Great job security

    Cons

Everything is very bureaucratic. I know it has to be to run such a large company, but it is frustrating. Toyota as a whole runs lean on man power, so expect to work overtime.

I have been working at Toyota North America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Toyota is working on a vision of BYOD wireless and voice / video conferencing so that people can work from any location on any device

    Cons

Toyota does not stand behind their IT vision. They want all of the IT people to relocate to Plano, TX, therefore Toyota will not be able to get the best people for the IT positions. The housing market in Plano is high-priced and competitive, effectively causing a pay cut, so the best people will not move out there.Management does not understand IT and thinks that they can run the company with inexperienced and incompetent outsourced staff from CSC.

    Advice to Management

Stand by your BYOD vision and retain the experienced IT staff. Let the best people work from any of your locations or remotely.

    Pros

Lots to learn, staff is very friendly and work is challenging but with many resources to fall back on.

    Cons

Work life balance is challenging as japanese mentality is very work oriented. They do not understand work hard play hard mindset of Americans nor have much understanding of anything outside of work.

    Advice to Management

I'm not sure how to change a mindset that is ingrained in the culture. you either work to lI've or live to work.
