    "Hard work pays, sort of"

    StarStarStarStarStar
Former Employee - Inside Sales in Georgetown, KY

I worked at Toyota Tsusho full-time

    Pros

I learned a lot at this company and didn't mind the high expectations of the Japanese culture. Hard work is expected, and they will promote accordingly, but you'll have to make a stellar case for raises. Great medical benefits (free!) and two+ total paid weeks off during shutdown in the summer and at Christmas. Depending on how far free medical benefits and PTO go with you, it may be worth the relatively low pay.

    Cons

What the Japanese say goes...mainly that's a hindrance for upper management though. Urgent situations may require long hours. They are VERY slow to remove ineffective management/employees. The hardest workers pull the extra weight of the laziest.

I worked at Toyota Tsusho full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits are ok not spectacular holidays

    Cons

No room for growth unless you belong to the group of good old boys. Hire people off the street who do not have the experience or capabilities to do the job as members already working at the company. If you work long hours and create new measurements, procedures, up date and improve process you will not get the credit for your work. The select few will take the credit for your work to promote themselves and you will... never promote up.

    Advice to Management

Stop being unethical, lying and deceptful. Start walking your talk if you are able.

I have been working at Toyota Tsusho full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great benefits and time off policies (Christmas week shutdown). Interesting product lines. Exposure to markets and cultures throughout the world.

    Cons

Arrogant management that is disrespectful to subordinates. Expectations of a Japanese style work environment (management by embarrassment, long hours)... does little to adapt to local work customs. Minimal training and advancement opportunities, especially if not located at main office. Management gives lip service to training and processes, but really just looks at the budget all day. People are just a tool to get... the job done.

    Advice to Management

The market is improving. Other jobs are out there. Time to improve morale and respect to employees or expect to lose more and more of them.

I worked at Toyota Tsusho full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good pension Good bonus Air conditioning

    Cons

Divide between staff No team work,Tight Deadlines long hours High staff turnover Expected to work like robots as your are not allowed to have general chats with your colleagues. It’s like being in a examination room!

    Advice to Management

Look after your staff and their mental wellbeing Decrease the stress. Need to adapt to modern management style and not micro manage employees. I.e managers should concentrate on strategic tasks, not deal with junior level work. Need to work smarter.
