    Pros

It was fun helping everyone out, customers, children and all.

    Cons

Management could use a little help, they are not running a tight ship

I have been working at Toys "R" Us (UK) (More than a year)

    Pros

    Staff discount, layaways, staff discount

    Cons

Poor management, poor communication, lack of human resource department. If you're friendly with management you're one of the lucky ones who'll get hours if not then don't count on a regular salary

    Advice to Management

Balance the hours fairly between all contracted staff. Actually train the people you hire instead of expecting other already overworked employees to pick up your slack

    Pros

    - 20% discount
    - Some great staff members, amongst the insufferable ones
    - Extra hour available if you want some
    - On site parking

    Cons

    - Extremely poor management, who think they're completely above operational tasks
    - Always suffering from management bickering about one another
    - Condescending and foul attitude by most long-term staff

    Advice to Management

You're not above things. Obviously delegating operational staff is part of your position. However, if these staff are snowed-under, hiding away isn't going to help. It's simply going to put customers off.

I worked at Toys "R" Us (UK) full-time

    Pros

Fun colleagues, including the managers (when they aren't stressed, which they are for all of the build up to Christmas).
Will give you the chance to move departments if you work hard enough.
Flexible on hours if you have children or other priorities.
You do not have to work every weekend as long as you ask.
If you're working more than a 6 hour shift you will get a full hour lunch break.
Fun if you're working part time.

    Cons

You will get crying/ screaming children at least once a day, more so during busy periods. Occasionally you will have to clean up pee.
The biggest contract you can get unless you get promoted is 30 hours, which is very rare anyway. "full time" is considered anything over 18 hours a week.
If you are "full time", a lot of work is "delegated" to you since some of the managers are too lazy to do it themselves. This can include running a section of the store by yourself with little to no help.
You will be running around like a headless chicken because they are always understaffed.
Most of the employees have only worked there for 1-2 years.
Post Christmas you will have bare minimum hours except for school holidays, and leading up to Christmas you will have close to no free time.
You are expected to stay an extra 15 minutes (at least) at the end of your shift unpaid.
They will try to make you work shifts with less than 11 hours between them, which is against the law.

    Advice to Management

Don't promise your hard workers promotions that you cannot give just to keep them around. They will realise that you're lying and leave anyway.
Get out of the office and help your employees when they ask for it.
Offer better contracts. 30 hours is not full time and the fact that you pretend it is is insulting.

    Pros

Enjoyable place to work, learned a lot about good customer service with specific aproach due to childrens environment, good team.

    Cons

No particulars regarding work itself, but personally found Disney music on loop non stop a bit overwhelming :)

I have been working at Toys "R" Us (UK) part-time

    Pros

Shop floor workers are a great bunch of people, very friendly helpful and patient toward the new staff. Its a fun job to have being able to meet a speak with so many new people everyday.

    Cons

The management team at this store are very rude towards the rest of the staff, they show no respect at all, even when people go above and beyond their normal duties there is no gratitude at all. The main store boss is the most disrespectful and stuck up person i have met in a very long time

    Advice to Management

Show your staff a bit of respect and maybe just try to actually treat them like human beings. You'll find that the store might function a little better if people are feeling appreciated

I have been working at Toys "R" Us (UK) part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

20% discount for staff with a discount card. They do not use actual chains to keep their staff locked in.

    Cons

Where do I start. You are told to work 14 days out of 14 without a day off. They constantly ignore government laws. They use zero hour contracts to enslave their workers. 6 hours minimum without a break, even when the stores are baking hot and people/kids are throwing up due to insufficient cooling. Fire extinguishers that are condemned and are not replaced putting the staff and customers as grave risk. There are no extra days off, I have never had a day off on my birthday unless I was not contracted.

    Advice to Management

Train your store management to not lie to staff, the staff are not stupid. Correct the whole management culture. Fix issues BEFORE they cause deaths.

I have been working at Toys "R" Us (UK) full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The colleagues in my team - very nice people, helpful - very good atmosphere with them

    Cons

Very old fashion of work environment: systems, business strategy, office furniture - no willingness of changes, no support in management/ IT for improvements; no training (or very poor) at your own job, even less for other department; no cross-function meetings. Management always agree on your ideas but do nothing about it - very poor communication. Company is so cheap that the cleaning lady has only 3h per day to clean up a whole 2 floors building - which limits the hygiene standards.
I was very negatively surprised by the company and look forward to find something more challenging soon somewhere else.

    Advice to Management

Take into account the advices from your employees, change is good and needed. Most of us are very unsatisfied by the conditions and some could really make a difference for the company and the employees without costing a lot. By improving and investing a little bit smartly, the company could probably benefit more and save more costs!

    Pros

20% discount, mostly good customers, staff are great to work with.

    Cons

EVERYTHING ELSE!!! Hardly any hours after Christmas, dirty, very poor facilities including toilets! Equipment (from 70s, 80s if you're lucky) always breaking down, cold and mouse infested...

    Advice to Management

Spend some money on your stores for crying out loud.
