I worked at Toys "R" Us full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

All around great people who want to help you succeed. You will learn a lot. Overall very nice people who work hard.

    Cons

The company is currently trying to reinvent itself so working here could be considered a risk, but the company culture is great.

I worked at Toys "R" Us full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Beautiful building/ campus, cafeteria, gym, fun events.

    Cons

Huge layoffs every year. Everyone is now doing the work of four people. This used to be a great place to work, but the company is struggling financially and now it's a tense, miserable environment to work in.

    Advice to Management

Management has led us down many strategic paths that have not worked out. Yet they continue to make lower level employees feel that it is their fault.

I worked at Toys "R" Us full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Creative people, friendly teams, on-campus gym and decent cafeteria. Starbucks located inside too! Depending on your manager, there were flexible WFH options for snow day and emergencies. Pretty flexible scheduling, too (ie: if you left at 4pm, you weren't docked an hour). Fun holiday-themed events (Halloween parade was awesome). Informative Town Hall meetings a few times a year helped to calibrate the teams and keep everyone up-to-date. Beautiful campus.

    Cons

Some people are very catty, can feel very clique-y at times. Favoritism was definitely played, too. Creative is left up to the opinions of too many people instead of being based off customer research and results. Marketing was also in the hands of the buying team instead of working together to collaborate and develop the best campaign for the customer. Lots of last minute changes and rushes with little reason aside from "So and so said to change it." Failing business seems to be more reactive to what everyone else planned for, instead of being proactive to be innovative and to stay ahead of the game.

    Advice to Management

Really listen to your teams. If someone wants to take on more, give them the opportunity to. Recognize where the deadweight is and address the BS sooner than later.

    Pros

Nice campus. Good benefits. Summer Fridays.

    Cons

Lot of favoritism. Top heavy. Unresponsive management. Not a place to build long term career. Little opportunity for advancement. Outdated stores, low quality products. Marketing group out of touch with what kids want.

    Constant changes at Executive level.

    Advice to Management

    Visit an Apple store!

    Pros

There're nice people who are willing to work hard to turn around the sinking ship.

    Cons

Narrow minded top management run out of idea to prevent the business going downhill.

    Advice to Management

Only out of box idea can turn your business around not the status quo.

I worked at Toys "R" Us full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Few to none currently. Wayne NJ HQ morale is in the toilet.

    Cons

The company is in the death throes and will soon fail. Big layoffs in February at the Wayne NJ headquarters started a major exodus of surviving employees. Even their recruitment video featuring three employees contains two employees that were laid off or quit.

    Advice to Management

    Call it a day !

I have been working at Toys "R" Us full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Best people I've ever worked with. Unfortunately, they've all started to leave.
It's great to believe in this brand, but unfortunately, hope is not enough.

    Cons

Outdated processes. Poor communications. Tons of meetings for no reason. Bad management - higher ups have no idea what people below them or doing or how much work they're doing. LOW headcount. People leaving left and right.

    Advice to Management

Believe in your employees more and HEAR THEM OUT. They do it all. They know it all.

    Pros

In house gym, encouraged to make business decisions and take risks, cool co workers make work tolerable. Flexible work hours.

    Cons

Managed by a manager, little time to analyze business too busy doing admin stuff. No career development. Stretch people too thin.

    Advice to Management

Change is good, new people bring new ideas.
