I worked at Tractor Supply full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They are willing to hire inexperienced people and train them.

    Cons

Management don't always listen to the feedback of the people on the floor. Laborers often had advice or suggestions to improve productivity but this advice was often ignored.

    Advice to Management

Increasing wages is a great step for employee retention and morale. But don't it is always good to give ear to the folks with suggestions that are not in management.

    Pros

Great People, and best of all the Greatest Customers. I love helping the customers of this retail store. Great exercise. Expect to walk close to 3k steps per hour as a team member during peak season. I tracked my steps at work. think about that for a second. lol

    Cons

There are so many cons its actually kind of sad. In my store the focus on customers is super high, but you can expect that the focus on employees to be the polar opposite. examples: The break room is very very dirty and unkept. food from a "holiday pot luck" sat in the dishes and pots for a week at the sink. if you want water to drink at break, you have to buy it. no coffee in the break room for early am shifts. No snack machines or drink machines for employees. you get a sad 15% off as an employee discount but only on items at regular price. no discount on sale items, no discount on clearance items. In my store we lead district in sales but they wont schedule enough employees to service customers properly.... really? 6 hours of an extra person working during peak will break the sales goal...??? i constantly get asked to stay longer than my shift when it gets close to me leaving. If working at this place didn't bring me social satisfaction with the customers I would have quit a long time ago. I just work part time and really dont need the work.

    Advice to Management

Staff up for peak. Break the mold and manage with basic intuition more than corporate training. Example: forcing employees to tape of rubber band their receipt on their drink is ridiculous. Giving employees daily goals for the day when they wont have 10 seconds to do anything between customers is ridiculous. add one or two employees to the schedule to work on your store planogram and shelf stocking goals before peak weekdays or sales, and let them work WITHOUT RED VESTS. Let them work on the plan, lets the red vests work on customers. If you want sales let your team members focus on getting sales, not getting stock from the back to fill a hole. ASIDE FROM ALL THIS, do something that makes your employees feel like you care about them. NOT A TEAM DINNER, something like store credit or a couple hours paid time when they want just because. or heck how about the water in the break room...

    Pros

TSC truly does love it's customers, employees and they believe in their mission

    Cons

Location of the SSC is a traffic nightmare, hours are long for management and they're quite behind on allowing any work from home job flexibility

    Advice to Management

Take advantage of how Nashville is exploding in growth with new companies and see how they're able to attract talent with benefits such as flex schedules, work from home, carpool incentives, etc
