I worked at Trailblazer Health Enterprises full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice working environment. People treated you like family. People worked there for 30 to 40 years.

    Cons

Pay wasn't great. No chance for upward mobility. Management could not or would not deal with employees who would not work. People worked there for 30 to 40 years, management would not hire new people to learn what these long term employees where doing. All the knowledge would just die out once employee left or retired.

    Advice to Management

Hire new employees to learn from the older generation and create new innovations to increase work productivity.

    Pros

Upper management is good; abilities and successes recognized and rewarded.
I was treated GREAT and couldn't ask for better treatment/recognition/financial compensation.
Potential at this company is very good with signifcant changes; otherwise, they're headed for the tank.

    Cons

Lower and middle management is poor. Most promotions are from within and based on tenure and not education and/or skill level. Many high school educated employees (good people) who are very knowledgeable because they work their way up, but should never be promoted into management/supervisory positions without significant management training/higher education. TrailBlazer doesn't require that though and they have many supervisors/managers with little or no outside (competitive) experience which creates an atmosphere of lower and middle management promoting/protecting poor performance in close/long-time friends and allies. Completely dysfunctional at the lower and middle management levels. If they don't get a grip on this incestuous lifestyle in the majority of the company (not at the higher levels), they will tank. There is no way they can be competitive without raising the bar. Too bad. Very nice folks who work hard there.

    Advice to Management

Stop the "family/incest" tradition and hire from outside (or encourage education within) to get PROFESSIONALS. This is a business, not a family. This practice will eventually cause the house of cards to fall and many good people will lose their jobs. To be competitive, you must treat this business as a BUSINESS!!
