I worked at TranSystems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good variety of work and great people in the offices.

    Cons

Work sharing and communication between offices was not great or efficient. Company went through cycles of mass layoffs just to come back and hire more people a few months later. Very inefficient and created a nervous environment for employees.

    Advice to Management

Invest in the good people you have.

I worked at TranSystems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There was a great team working environment and good local management. They would provide opportunities to take on more advanced roles on projects. The project selection was great.

    Cons

No clear progression path for promotion. A set of minimum goals as guidance would help provide an idea of what would be needed to advance.

    Advice to Management

Provide goals and opportunities for advancement.

    Pros

    Good variety of work.

    Cons

Multiple rounds of layoffs in 2017. Company does not grow responsibly and lower level employees take the fall. As an PE, I still did a lot of technician work.

    Pros

Ability to learn about the transportation industry and relationship with private industry

    Cons

Many offices working together is a powerful tool but there are coordination issues that need to be adressed.

    I worked at TranSystems full-time

    Pros

The people in local office were really nice. The benefits were ok. The salary was competitive but raises were really low, the lowest I've ever received from any company.

    Cons

Management has no idea what direction they want to take with the Marketing department. The "strategic plan" changes constantly which makes them look disorganized and clueless. In the short time I was there, I had 5 supervisors. Ridiculous.

    Pros

In 2015 they spoke continuously of being the "Employer of Choice" and often requested feedback from employees. They've been strangely silent since December.

    Cons

2016 has seem MULTIPLE rounds of layoffs. The company seems to be in serious trouble. They continue to let people go. Nobody seems safe. I've been in this situation in other companies too many times.

    Advice to Management

Stop letting people go. You're seriously undermining confidence of those left. I'm seriously thinking about leaving.

    Pros

    Work-life balance was always good.
    Most people very positive

    Cons

Executive Management team very misdirected. No TRUE leadership...no TRUE direction in which the organization is going. NOT AT ALL interested in training people with outside skills slightly diverse than what they currently have on staff to make great impact. Overall leadership is non-communicative and quick to judge without cause.

    Advice to Management

Forget training your Middle Managers, Train your EXECUTIVES.

    Pros

Very good talent in the narrow focus of the organization,

    Cons

Culture of mistrust and cronyism, Risk aversion of principal owners due to potential sale of company in light of organization downward spiral from 1500 to 800 in 7 years. No serious discussions about how to improve things and often suggestions are viewed as criticism of a very top down organization.

    Advice to Management

stop taking polls, talk and listen to your people and get out of their way. If you are routinely in conversations and cannot relate, you probably should be excused.

I worked at TranSystems full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people in individual offices. Plenty of opportunity to channel your career to your interests. Good pay and benefits.

    Cons

Upper company management seems disengaged with individual offices. Company seems to teeter between wanting the "large" company environment and straying from the "local" feel.

    Advice to Management

Most individual offices have the local feel that makes clients feel like they have a personalized touch. Don't let that individuality go when trying to expand the company.
