Corporate Environment needs work - from the top down.

    Pros

They pay well and benefits are better than some other employers.

    Cons

A senior manager demands people to work until early in the morning to "fix" issues that are not show-stopping, then expect you back at work to do your "regular" duties at the normal time. Expect to work a lot of weekends - this is not a family friendly employer. High burnout and a total lack of respect for the employees results in a high-turnover rate.

Company is rapidly going downhill. HQ management is desperate and out of touch.

    Pros

Some very talented people work here. Pay rate is good.

    Cons

Company used to be entrepeneurial in approach, but since 2008 has turned into a centrally-managed, bureaucratic, rigidly process-based place that doesn't care at all about its clients or doing a good design job. HQ only cares about following their processes, profit and stock price. Work long hours for no thanks or recognition at all. Management decisions change constantly for no apparent reason. Performance feedback never mentions or recognizes effort or results but is always negative and only focuses on small inconsequential things that don't directly impact the business. HQ doesn't care to get to know its people outside of Kansas City. I could go on forever. I used to really like working here, but since 2008 its becoming worse every year. No indication that anyone at HQ has a clue about how to improve morale. And the numbers they focus on improving keep going down. Anyone who works on projects for clients that aren't DOT's realizes that HQ's policies on contracting are driving the business right into the ground. Mid-level management has lost all faith and trust in top-level management. We feel ignored, exasperated, bullied and hopeless.

Best Work Environment I've ever been in!

    Pros

My experience with TranSystems was a good one. Only reason I am leaving is to move closer to family and sadly there is no office near me back home. Here are a few highlights as to why I like the company: Great Work Environment Competitive Pay/Benefits Flexible Work Schedule (You can have a home life) Challenging Projects

    Cons

There aren't many things I don't like about TranSystems but here are a few areas for improvement: Employee orientation process could be improved. Some new employees (specifically new-grad engineers) would benefit from taking maybe a week to two week long course to orientate them about the company, crash course in MicroStation, ProjectWise, and other relevant programs, and a course on our company specific standards (how to utilize them and where to access them).

    Pros

good pay. Good engineers who desire to do good work.

    Cons

Management not willing to invest in the company, apparently looking to cash out ownership without regard to the future of the company. Cutting staff in all sectors nationwide. ~30% reduction of company size over past 2 years. Golden handcuffs policies make employees fairly miserable.

    Pros

Pay is okay, work from home some days

    Cons

Zero mentorship, zero onboarding, zero communication in the office, work from home is being lessened because corporate wants people back in the office to increase camaraderie and other corporate B.S (even though nobody talks in the office), incredibly boring and menial assignments

Client Manager -- It's all about billable hours and sales

    Pros

Good pay. Managers have flexible schedules.

    Cons

Poor treatment of employees. Layoffs are the norm when work temporarily slows. Billability targets are not obtainable without working 55 hours per week. Management feels that Architects are easily replaced. Project management tools are a joke. IT systems are poor, but getting better.
