    Pros

TCPL has good medical benefits and relaxed work environment for the Houston downtown office.

    Cons

Company is run with Calgary mentality and the new Columbia Gas Pipeline acquisition

    Advice to Management

care about the US employees, not only the CPG group

    Pros

Benefits are good. Vacation is very liberal. If you can prove 10 years of relevant experience, they automatically give you 4 weeks plus everyone gets 40 hrs personal time in addition.
In the past pay was competitive, but has fallen off over the last few years.

    Cons

HUGE divide at the US/Canadian border. Canada get more $, more personal time, more holidays, and all of the upper management positions. It's two different companies, just depends on which side of the border you live.
Procedure driven........check your brain at the door.
Bonuses are shrinking. No raises in 2016.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people doing the work. Their actions make the company money, not someone sitting in the office. Work life balance should be always, not just when slow or convenient to management.

I worked at TransCanada as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company has a consistently well educated and intelligent work force.

    Cons

Employees have a very negative attitude. Company has suffered multiple layoffs and conducts layoffs in a very impersonal fashion. Often folks are let go with little or no explanation.

    Advice to Management

If you are going to use contractors...find ways to integrate them more effectively into the work force. Strive to improve teamwork satisfaction of all workers in the company. Every employee has an important contribution to make.

    Pros

Benefits, steady work, some amazing coworkers,
Location, depending on department you have the ability to grow within the company itself.

    Cons

Lack of integrity, trust, managers and some coworkers turn a blind eye and blame others for things they have done wrong. Valid proof is not taken unless you are a manager as a managers word is gold to an employee.
The unfairness within a department causing such sleepless nights due to stress is unbelievable.

    Advice to Management

When your given proof of misbehavior, you should take a look at it and not disregard.

I worked at TransCanada full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Comparable Salary and Benefits to other Oil & Gas companies.
They are increasing their diversity in there work force.
Going to great lengths to increase equal female representation in leadership roles and senior leader roles.
Incentive Compensation (personnel performance bonuses) almost impossible to not achieve 10%

    Cons

Huge internal change with incredibly poor leadership on execution.
Numerous long term experienced high level EVPs and SVPs have quit or left?
20% targeted reductions in their workforce since fall of 2015.
1000+ long term experienced people terminated.
Many roles were rebranded / replaced soon after terminations.
Huge gaps exist, lacking experienced operational leadership at many levels.

    Advice to Management

Must develop centralized and "formalized" processes in Human Resources to fairly assess employee performance when determining terminations for all lines of their businesses.
Requires formalized processes for assessment or advancement of their leaders.

I worked at TransCanada full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good compensation, some of the managers are excellent and allow for flexible work hours. Great ergonomic support and they provide you with great work hardware. Benefits package is very competitive.

    Cons

It is a gamble what kind of manager you wind up with. With the downturn in oil it is random who is going to stay and who goes. It is still a bit of an old boys club and in some groups it is the people kissing up to the management who are protected from layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Be careful who you promote into management rolls. Make sure they are also in the appropriate department so that the people working under them can be properly supported.
