I have been working at TransCanada full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

decent pay, good benefits, nice office

    Cons

work load! constant management changes, work load, middle management that really knows little about what they are managing. Not nearly enough field employees. work load.

    Advice to Management

We seem to have plenty vice presidents and directors, but not enough people that actually do the work. Don't have salary ranges and then only "allow" people to get to the middle of them and no higher.

I have been working at TransCanada (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits, the best teammates/co-workers.

    Cons

US based employees are barely/never considered for promotion into team, department, business units, and organizational leadership. Indirectly being shown day in and day out that this is a Canadian company and will remain so; therefore, not matter how much you do - your Canadian counterparts are and will be priority/superior. In other words, US based employees are not being shown what’s in it for them – so why again will you carry the cross for… If you are a top talent or considered an elite in your profession and you want a company that will take you and your contributions serious and show their appreciation of that - this is not the company for you.

    Advice to Management

Engage and use top/elite talents universally - no matter what country and location and you will see greater results.

    Pros

Great compensation, vacation time, 401K plan, dental and health.

    Cons

There is a power struggle between Canadian management and US management, which causes many decisions to go unchecked, and delayed.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to learn to get along to make logical decisions.

Failing oil & gas industry, no certainty of stable job.

I have been working at TransCanada as an intern

    Pros

Has a very large intern program and takes the interns on community service trips. Hosted a lot of virtual info sessions for interns to watch as a group that were very informative about the company.

    Cons

lots of busy work, but really hit or miss with the mentors they provide. You basically get assigned to do one repetitive task all summer and that is all you do.

    Advice to Management

Have a more structured internship program. I think a rotational program would be very beneficial.

I have been working at TransCanada full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They value family/vacation time. The moving packages for employees transferring locations is better than any other company I know. They have really good benefits, although the insurance plan is changing so the health benefits won't be as good as they used to be.

    Cons

Compensation is no great shakes. Promotions are few and far between. If you're not Canadian, you probably aren't going very far in this company.

    Advice to Management

It's okay to let people do their jobs and trust them to make decisions. It's also okay to hold contractors responsible for their mistakes. Novel, I know.
