I have been working at TransPerfect full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

TransPerfect is the perfect mix of a well-established company and a start-up atmosphere. There are of course set tracks, but you don't have to follow them if you're not happy for any reason. Because the company is rapidly growing, innovation and leadership from below are encouraged. In my past year I've been given more responsibility, opportunity, and compensation than I though was possible.

    Cons

The translation industry can be tough to differentiate yourself within - selling technology at Transperfect is where it's at.

    Advice to Management

Keep allowing flexibility, but do keep pushing us - we always need it. If someone doesn't work in the New York or DC office, ensure you're doing as much as you can to make them feel like they are

I worked at TransPerfect full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You run your own book of business
You're able to interact with clients flexibly (i.e. in-person, via email, over the phone)

    Cons

Pyramid scheme - they keep the high earners high, and the low earners low.
They do not train their employees to be managers - they simply make you manager if you earn enough money.
You barely make any commission for the first several years.
Terrible office culture - no respect for upper management.

    Advice to Management

Take interest in your team and actually encourage them to grow instead of dropping them in the deep end.

I worked at TransPerfect full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great line of diverse products to sell (most of them are very competitive)
    - Fun co-workers (heavily dependent on location)
    - Plethora of Industry savvy co-workers to learn product knowledge and sales tips from
    - POTENTIAL for long term high pay
    - Benefits (Health insurance and PTO) are significantly better than most small-mid size companies

    Cons

    - Pyramid scheme with extra perks structure
    - Very low starting salary for all jobs
    - Morale in most locations
    - Work/Life balance is terrible compared to most good sales teams
    - You are expected to manage accounts for which you don't get paid, but your managers do (they're essentially milking you for free work so they can get commission).
    - Upper management. Some people have been there so long they own so many accounts and barely work while still getting paid commission. This is very discouraging for new employees.
    - Commission structure until you hit Director level is a joke (1% on referred clients, 2% on clients you find yourself) while your managers are making 9+% on your sales.
    - Promotions are done in bulk, and aren't based on success. I had colleagues who had done nothing but been there half a year longer than me, get promoted at the same time with the same pay raises.

    Advice to Management

    - Trim the fat, upper management should be pulling their weight or leading by example.
    - Spread the wealth, i'm not going to stay around closing over half a million my first year and getting 5K in commission while my boss gets 45K for micromanaging me everyday (true story)
    - Continue to develop the training structure, it is paying off but still far from excellent.

I have been working at TransPerfect full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work with every industry. People are nice and makes it pleasant to go into work on a weekly basis

    Cons

If you are newer to the team, you won't be able to be grandfather into accounts that will generate the big commissions as the more senior Sales Director have already capitalize on the repeat accounts.

Company has a $185 million debt and have been skimping on benefits as well as harping every individual to sell, sell, sell which results in lots of micromanaging.

Also benefits are not great. 401K vested after you've been with the company for 5 years. You don't get a lot of the US holidays off.

    Advice to Management

Managers should not micromanage employees, but instead allow for autonomy. Also managers should take feedback/ ideas from employees so they will want to stick around and grow with the company

I worked at TransPerfect full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Some sales training is provided

    Cons

Rude, disrespectful and over-entitled coworkers. Sales managers are protected even if they commit HR violations against you. This place made me want to cry going into the office every single day. STAY AWAY, besides, the pay is insignificant for everything they make you go through.

    Advice to Management

Sanction your people when they commit atrocious harassment acts.

I worked at TransPerfect full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible working hours at times

    Cons

    Unhealthy corporate culture.
Does not follow through on pay structure.
    Unprogressive technology and internal structure.

    Advice to Management

Being transparent with employees is important to retention. Individuals at this company do not have a team mentally. I would recommend updating your sales structure so your employees are not wasting time arguing over the same leads- time is best spent selling outward to grown the company and bring in NEW business. It makes for a very uncomfortable working environment,
