I worked at TransPerfect full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

You run your own book of business You're able to interact with clients flexibly (i.e. in-person, via email, over the phone)

    Cons

Pyramid scheme - they keep the high earners high, and the low earners low. They do not train their employees to be managers - they simply make you manager if you earn enough money. You barely make any commission for the first several years. Terrible office culture - no respect for upper management.

    Advice to Management

Take interest in your team and actually encourage them to grow instead of dropping them in the deep end.

I worked at TransPerfect full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

    - Great line of diverse products to sell (most of them are very competitive) - Fun co-workers (heavily dependent on location) - Plethora of Industry savvy co-workers to learn product knowledge and sales tips from - POTENTIAL for long term high pay - Benefits (Health insurance and PTO) are significantly better than most small-mid size companies

    Cons

    - Pyramid scheme with extra perks structure - Very low starting salary for all jobs - Morale in most locations - Work/Life balance is terrible compared to most good sales teams - You are expected to manage accounts for which you don't get paid, but your managers do (they're essentially milking you for free work so they can get commission). - Upper management. Advice to Management

    - Trim the fat, upper management should be pulling their weight or leading by example. - Spread the wealth, i'm not going to stay around closing over half a million my first year and getting 5K in commission while my boss gets 45K for micromanaging me everyday (true story) - Continue to develop the training structure, it is paying off but still far from excellent.

    Cons

TPT was run like a frat house when I was there. Totally NO accountability from upper management and absolutely no transparency.

    Advice to Management

    Please resign.

I worked at TransPerfect full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

-Good first job out of college -Tech and hosting departments are ok -Honestly, not that many pros to the DC office

    Cons

-Mid-Management does not treat employees very well -Because of high employee turn over, management is basically the employees who are leftover and have been there the longest, not the most qualified for the positions -Expected to work holidays, weekends, and nights as the company is "24/7" - a lot of these extra days and obligations are not included in the job descriptions and are not paid overtime if you are a salary...

    Advice to Management

My advice to upper management would be to reevaluate your mid management. I was employed there for two years and mid level management never received any management training or workshops. As a result they are very unorganized and ill equipped to run a team. They take out their frustrations and lack of experience and knowledge on the employees on their teams. There are good employees at the company but they are squashed...

TP offers an entrepreneurial opportunity to all sales people. You get the chance to make your own success. You will learn about a vast number of industries giving you the opportunity to see how different businesses function in the global marketplace. Many seasoned sales professionals to learn from and bounce ideas off of. Abundance of services to sell to a wide array of business units. Robust marketing...

    Cons

Company culture used to be one of the greatest pros about the company. With the lawsuit and court ordered sale process, the company culture has changed drastically with politics looming large instead of meritocracy. The company no longer has a clear strategic vision for various business units within given marketplaces that it once had. Perhaps this is also related to the court ordered sale or perhaps it is part of...

    Advice to Management

End the politics associated with the court ordered sale process because they affect the company top down and have clearly hurt the brand in the eyes of some clients. Stop making promises you cannot deliver on despite attaining a goal. Too many times you ask to give back to help the company or the team and too many times it does not swing back the other way.

I have been working at TransPerfect full-time for more than a year

    Pros

What can I say? I learned how ugly business can be.

    Cons

When I started translating, upper management contacted me and actively encouraged me to request purchase order corrections. Now I'm reading that Transperfect deducts hundreds of dollars from their bonus for every "faulty purchase order" accounting has to correct. (So if your bonus doesn't reflect what it should, now you know why). Likewise, project managers are actively...

I worked at TransPerfect full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Great health benefits and time off. Impossible to beat. Great comradery among co-workers.

    Cons

Extremely poor management. People are promoted to Sales Managers - managing people - because they are great at Sales. It's a horrible strategy because the majority of them do not make good managers. There is no training structure whatsoever, yet the learning curve is MASSIVE. They have you review online modules and think you're good to go. This, matched with poor management does not make for success. The morals...

    Advice to Management

Pull it together. Maybe going public will be the best thing for this company. Get a training structure in place. Invest in your employees' success. Be fair. Train your managers to be GREAT and most importantly, be good role models, sales doesn't HAVE to be sleazy.

    Pros

If you are a member of a high revenue department, your bonuses make up for your low base salary.

    Cons

If you're part of a low revenue department, bonuses are low and and thus there may be vast differences in salaries for employees with the same tenure. Disconnect between upper management and employees.

    Advice to Management

Be more invested in your team and work to foster better work-life balance atmosphere.
