I have been working at Transocean full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A lot of opportunity for growth. Constantly changing industry is exciting to work in and very challenging.

    Cons

Working rotation offshore makes it hard to raise a family.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the needs of those that are working offshore. It is very easy to lose sight of what is really happening offshore when those making new policy or driving change haven't been to the rig to see the situation first hand.

I have been working at Transocean full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, awesome 401k matching and competitive pay. They good about paying for travel and booking decent airlines tickets for crew changing (Supervisor positions).

Safety is the number one concern, they don't just say it, they really mean it. Everyone has the authority to stop the job at anytime if they feel uncomfortable without repercussion from supervisors. It's their number one safety tool!

    Cons

Due to the oil down turn, they no longer pay for license advancement classes, which is why I can to Transocean from my previous employer. They use to be really good about paying for continuing education and Coast Guard license advancement classes, but they cut back a couple years ago.

They're policies and procedures are constantly changing and evolving which can be very stressful and confusing for the employees working on the rig. It seems like every time you come back to work something has changed. It's sometimes hard to keep up with.

    Advice to Management

Give good employees with good appraisals the chance to upgrade their license. Management should focus more on keeping the good junior officers and helping them develop and upgrade as needed, otherwise they will leave to company that will. Pay is not just the number one concern, most people see recognition and advancement as more important.
