I worked at Travelers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There are only a few good pros. They are:
    Good starting pay
    Friendly co-workers
22 days off per year( includes sick time)

    These are the only pros

    Cons

Where do I start... I left the company due to a hostile work environment due to a unprofessional manager. I will say if you are a female and work in a specific department, you will receive positive treatment from the male manager. A list of the reasons why I left are:
    Unrealistic expectations
If you take PTO be prepared to be behind on your tasks
If you become behind, management will hound you until you become current.
The only way to stay current is to do massive amounts of overtime.
Don't even bother making complaints because they will go unheard and you will end up getting stabbed in the back.
If you do not move out of your position, you will not receive yearly raises no matter how much work you do.
The only advancement opportunities if you start in operations is to go to workers comp.
I will make sure to advise anyone I know to not work for this company due to the reasons above.

    Advice to Management

If you have a problem child manager, get rid of him, do not just pass him from department to department.
Have a suggestion/comment box for the employees to voice their concerns with no paper trail that will lead back to the employee. The employees do fear management and that is the reason they do not speak up.

I worked at Travelers (More than a year)

    Pros

Very good training programs, Multiple Lines of Business- not just a home and auto insurer, Chairman of the Board with long term vision, experienced teams, more autonomy as a field adjuster than other carriers, respected in industry..

    Cons

Turnover, copycat of Progressive insurance strategy, lack of opportunity to try new disciplines, non-intuitive claims system was bulky and time consuming.

    Advice to Management

Be careful when replicating other companies claim execution strategies and the impact on employee morale. I saw a large exodus of quality auto adjusters in 2013.

    Pros

Great stable company that promotes growth.

    Cons

High turn over in my department

    Advice to Management

Use appreciation through recognition more frequently, and give R & R's more frequently, as well as, more competitive salaries.

I worked at Travelers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Nice Competitive salary
Good benefits medical dental and vision
    Advancement opportunities
    Lots of training
They offered a ride share program and gave incentives for that

    Cons

Micromanaged, managed multiple accounts and sometimes had three + files reviews per month. One account I had 40 files to review and had a few other reviews that month. Made being productive on my desk difficult

I worked at Travelers full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    1. Work can be interesting, if you are on the manager's good side.
    2. Company Car
    3. Corporate discounts
    4. Work/Life balance is pretty good.

    Cons

The business culture here is toxic. Since the work is very subjective, I noticed my reports were under a lot of unnecessary scrutiny compared to my coworkers, after falling out of favor with the manager. They forced me out of there and wrote me up for petite things like, "not asking enough questions in training class" or "not eating lunch with coworkers". There's very clear favoritism here and a lot of kissing up to higher ups. I noticed on LinkedIn that my entire hired class have quit and moved on from Travelers within 1-2 years. Wouldn't recommend this place.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your team instead of yourself.

    Pros

Better than average pay. Good people on the floor trying to do a tough job. I have made a lot of good friends.

    Cons

The queen bee has an agenda. If you get in her way, she will destroy you. If you aren't one of the chosen, you are screwed.

    Advice to Management

Most of the turnover is due to 1 person.

I have been working at Travelers full-time

    Pros

Flexibility in my day, the ability to work less than 8 hours if I get my tasks done.

    Cons

Lack of opportunity to advance, management talks about the career wheel but they just bring in external candidates.

    Advice to Management

Make big changes to top management because the culture is beyond toxic
