I have been working at Travelers full-time

    Pros

Most coworkers help each other out as much as possible when one is out on vacation, out with the flu, or one just needs a little help to get caught up from a bad week.

    Cons

High stress level, lack of planning for staffing needs, extremely high turn-over, micromanagement, favoritism, inconsistency with process and procedures between management and locations

    Advice to Management

Ask the frontline workers what is needed to improve their job, enable them to be successful, and act upon it. Recognize the hard work of all and end the micromanagement and favoritism.

I worked at Travelers full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Great starting pay as Trainee, 54k right out of college. Structured Training, mentor help and plenty of time before taking claims Better than average benefits Very interesting work, and can even be fun determining liability and working through scenarios.

    Cons

Workloads are heavy and unrelenting. There are about 10 hours worth of claims to be handled in an 8 hour day. On Monday, you walk into a full day of claims from the weekend, plus a heavier than normal inventory throughout the day. It is a constant scramble, and to do it right you have to work 100mph non stop. Eventually stress was the reason for resignation. It seemed that most people left within 3-6 months.

    Advice to Management

It is not an easy fix to just add more claims professionals to handle the workloads. This is a part of insurance that does not make any money for the company, only pays out. They really do need to get as much out of their employees as possible. For a lesser claim load, I personally would have been happy to take lesser pay, especially out of college.

    I worked at Travelers full-time

    Pros

Outstanding starting salary as an entry level employee, option of "cross lines" movement to stay challenged after you've exhausted yourself in your current role, the last resort option to go into red alert mode and take state-protected Stress Leave

    Cons

Sink or Swim environment from the moment you are activated within the claims system, minimal individual assistance from a designated training resource. Performance strictly graded by your ability to call a claimant / worker / insured within a designated time frame; salary increases and bonuses not based on experience, extra specialty work performed, or seniority; requirements to take on additional work not within your...

    Advice to Management

Rewarding extra tasks is a MUST in the claims environment. A dedicated training employee would help tremendously with the on boarding process.

I have been working at Travelers full-time

    Pros

There is a lot of variety in the claims that you handle. Most co-workers all work as a team and treat each other as family.

    Cons

High turn over and lack of job security. The expectations are nearly impossible and employees always feel threatened they will go on warning and then be terminated. Many good employees have been let go or left themselves so this creates inexperience or more of chance you will not make the #s. There is not any real formal training by managers. Experienced co-workers try to train, but they can only do so much. ...

I have been working at Travelers

    Pros

In my position I am lucky to have the manager I have. I have seen other managers in other departments and I give thanks for where I am.

    Cons

There is not much growth opportunity in the Sacramento area. Politics rule.

    Advice to Management

Let those who want to telecommute do so, trust the employees you have
