I worked at Travelers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Well established company, many employees, opportunities for change

    Cons

Stingy with salary increases, intensive intrusive management, little freedom to solve problems in creative ways, minimal freedom given to supervisory staff

    Advice to Management

Cut out the micro management, let your well paid employees earn their money by making intelligent decisions

I have been working at Travelers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits and paid time off

    Cons

Base your quality on 6 calls a month when you take 50 calls a day. Do not get any sort of financial compensation for getting trained in more.

    Advice to Management

Tell the interviewer from the get go that this job only leads to claim adjuster jobs.

I have been working at Travelers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good place to retire from

    Cons

Legacy software, ancient/non-standard web dev, lots of VB/cobol, bad really bad coding practices, almost all development is done by terrible offshore (aka copy-paste coding), spend most of time dealing with offshore who can't even google basic programming 101 topics, clueless management, terrible/old dev equipment, lots of manual process, architects who don't code, no strong teams - you're a floater doing something different from one project to another. no opportunity to grow a skill set - management doesn't understand different technical specializations.

If you care one bit about programming/development, stay far away from this company.

    Advice to Management

Outsourcing is a waste of time and money. The math doesn't add up if you had any clue about software development

Great benefits. 401K match is great.

    Cons

Most work is being moved to India. In February, 2017, Travelers made a cut to over 140 jobs across the U.S.

    Advice to Management

PLEASE DON'T MOVE OUR WORK TO INDIA.

I worked at Travelers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and the pay is better than other companies, but it will require a blood sacrifice to survive and they don't retain talent

    Cons

No work life balance and unreasonable expectations. Poor upper management support and constant turnover because they don't value talent. The pay is not worth it

    Advice to Management

Lower expectations and adequately staff the region with quality people

I worked at Travelers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are no positives with this company

    Cons

In 36 years of being in insurance Loss Control, this was the WORST company I have ever worked for!! I would not recommend working for this company. Everything was negative and upper management was purely metrics driven with no positive reinforcement at all. You will NEVER see this company nominated as a "best places to work".

    Advice to Management

Replace upper management in Loss Control....Treat people as valued people.

    Pros

    Decent Pay and Decent Hours

    Cons

Many - if you are over 50, they will not fire you but make your life miserable. You will be pushed to your limit with humiliation . They don't want to pay pensions or unemployment benefits, so if you are older, they just force you out.

    Advice to Management

My supervisor was absolutely no support for me, She just wanted to save her job. I don't think she works there anymore, so maybe she was pushed out as well.

I worked at Travelers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I can't think of one redeeming quality about working in the project management office at Travelers (Personal Insurance Division). I suppose it's a paycheck.

    Cons

The Personal Insurance Division has an incredibly oppressive work environment, the bureaucracy is Kafka-esque.
    Treat older workers poorly
    Reactive, not pro-active, management.

    Advice to Management

Treat people like human beings and not factory parts.

I worked at Travelers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

good pay, you get good paid time off, 401k match and pension

    Cons

    - There are a lot of of cliques
    - a lot of favoritism
    - Diversity is lip service
    - They only pick their favorites for advancement - I was there 4 years, had great yearly reviews and interviewed 3x and was never allowed to move to another department.

During my time there I felt as if I was not accepted, I was not trained properly, I had 5 different managers in 4 years and my last 5 months there I felt harassed by one of the managers and that lead me to quit because I knew that if I went to HR they will not do nothing about it. The Senior management from my department did not even approach me to ask me why I was leaving. I am a minority and for me it was not a great experience.

    Advice to Management

Treat all EE the same and provide opportunities to all based on their work ethic.
