I have been working at Travelers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Employees are knowledgeable and passionate about their work. Wide selection of training and online courses offered for personal and professional development.

    Cons

Little to no work/life balance due to long hours and exceedingly high expectations.
Very limited growth opportunities within HR community.

    Advice to Management

Provide more growth opportunities to internal HR staff rather than hiring externally.

I have been working at Travelers full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Pay is decent with great benefits. 20 days paid vacation to start. Not much else going for them. Benefits do start day 1

    Cons

Office ran like high school job performance takes a back seat to kissing up to your manager. Very little room for advancement they like to hire outside or friends for anything besides front line.

    Advice to Management

Upper management should really look into why. They have turnover the stuff front line managers do would get any other person fired

I worked at Travelers full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good starting salaries, good co workers, large company with reasonable benefits.

    Cons

Micromanagement! Every action is tagged and clocked, and compared against criteria handed down from the Hartford tower. No input is requested or tolerated; any suggestions for improvements are seen as the complaints of a disgruntled employee. Management makes occasional visits to the branch offices on what they call a listening tour; but it's pretty well understood that they don't really want to hear your ideas. In fact we were told by our manager at the last one of these meetings that we were not to bring up any suggestions.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Trust us to do our jobs. Give salary increases that at least keep up with inflation.

    I worked at Travelers full-time

    Pros

The people who work at Travelers are mostly decent.

    Cons

You will not get any positive feedback. The company has self reviews that are done by your manager. If the manager does not like you, the files will be scored down, Then you will get fired

    Advice to Management

Make sure you hire qualified unit managers.

    Pros

Hours, Good Starting Pay, Training was excellent

    Cons

Stuffy corporate atmosphere, promotions based on tenure and not merit, overwhelming amount of work, no OT allowed to catch up on work, management just biding their time and not sincere or helpful to new hires.

    Advice to Management

Be a little more attentive to your new hires

    I worked at Travelers full-time

    Pros

Some of the people here are excellent individuals that I respect and admire.

    Cons

I think that there is a toxic culture, inexperienced middle management, politics across the board, lots of finger pointing and playing the blame game when things don't go as planned. I'd even go so far as to say certain individuals within the organization could be classified as sociopaths.

    Advice to Management

Get with the times. You are way behind when it comes to technology. You are way behind when it comes to market trends. You are way behind when it comes to corporate culture. Geico has built up such a competitive advantage over you that in my opinion, it is insurmountable.
