    Pros

Travelers has a positive work environment with a lot of energy. There are frequent opportunities to be recognized for doing a good job. While some recognition may seem "rah rah", over time it extends to providing an environment where you want to do well for the good of the team.

    Cons

There are a lot of meetings to attend. Sometimes training takes a lot of time away from executing the job.

    Advice to Management

Explain to the employees why Travelers isn't going to melt down like other financial services companies.

    Pros

Best reasons to work at Travelers are work life balance and benefits

    Cons

several different layers of overlapping roles in the Claim IT organization with out solid project management make projects painful and difficult to complete with any agility

    Advice to Management

give people incentive to make decisions- even if they are wrong in the end, in an effort to push projects along to completion. Everything can be fixed.

    Pros

    Interesting work and great co-workers

    Cons

    bureaucratic nightmare and depersonalized management

    Advice to Management

Need to value your employees more when they are working there, not just when they are walking out the door. And money talks.

    Pros

Relative to many of its peers, the company is large, conservatively run and therefore stable. With AIG's collapse and Hartford's troubles, Travelers is well positioned to maintain or improve upon its market position.

    Cons

The corporate culture may seem staid or even stodgy to some - - a subjective mater of personal preference. Likewise with the geographical location of the home office. The suburbs surrounding Hartford are generally quiet, prosperous family friendly communities. Hartford proper is a more or less distressed city with the systemic challenges (crime, drugs, violence, run-down school systems) one would expect. After work hours there is notoriously little in the way of nightlife, culture or entertainment activity.

    Advice to Management

Flatter management. Less of command and control, hub and spoke model.
