I have been working at Tredegar full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Self-paced days
    Easy to get time-off approved

    Cons

Management is not present, allowing your peers to write your evaluations.
Coworkers enjoy gossip, often forming cliques.
Promotions, pay, and vacation time are determined by seniority not merit.
    Office/lab regulations are selectively enforced.
Employees are highly encouraged to stay in their positions and not attempt to move up.
The company is unwilling to develop employees' skills.
Workload is uneven (few do work while the majority sit around) which keeps wages low.
Turnover is high, in response, the company is losing clients left and right.
HR personnel have close friends in the office, making it difficult to raise concerns about some coworkers.

    Advice to Management

Be present for your employees (from bottom to top). Pay dues based on merit and allow employees to develop and aspire for more. Don't be a puppet to senior employees who are able to manipulate your opinions because you aren't there to form your own.

I worked at Tredegar full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Free smart phone if u are qualified. Reasonable vacation and insurance

    Cons

This company has no investment in R&D, no new products, no plan to grow either. The CEO and CFO were just fired for their poor work, but the damage is already there. In this commodity business, Tredegar is losing market share in the main diaper business every year and does not get enough growth in other markets. The management team has simply no clue how to reverse the trend and has no patience with new product development. Everyone is trying to leave as quickly as possible. Do not come to Tredegar if you have other options!

    Advice to Management

Show some respect for your employee, invest more in new product development and give it more time.

    Cons

Stifling management. Look at the annual report write up.

    Advice to Management

Stop using the axe. No one left is afraid to make any decisions.

I worked at Tredegar full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Pros are you will work like hell and become physically fit for under $15.00 per hour!

    Cons

Cutthroat management. All long term employees will never say anything negative for fear of termination. The only way
you will get promoted is to know someone in management.

    Advice to Management

They won't take advice. It's their way or the Highway! They are VERY afraid of Union organization!

    Pros

if you are poor and they offer you more than what you currently make. They have a company picknick at holiday world. Every month or so you get an inexpensive item providing there are no injuries. The health plan is actually not that bad compared to other health plans at places that I have worked. The 401K plan was alright but they cut retirement benefits at the last union contract which just means that they will cut them again. This seems to be the norm in amercan business now though. The vacation isnt very good though either was the pay.

    Cons

extremely low morale everyone pretty much hates working there but a few people, incompetent managers. Way too many managers, the plant could probably be ran with 8 or less mangers and when I left they had close to 15 to 20. They have since let one go. Most of the managers dont really know what is going on and they argue amongst them selves alot also. Union environment. If you hate unions as i do then this isnt a place for you to work. A few ignorant co-workers who are protected by the union. The operators are paid very well for the training that is required.

I have been working at Tredegar full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

RVA is an up & coming city, benefits are excellent, pay is mediocre.

    Cons

Having worked with 50+ companies in the RVA/DC area, Tredegar wins the award for most resistant to change.

    Advice to Management

It's been a decade- how many more years can the company survive blaming its plummeting stock price on loss of business with P&G post 2008 financial crisis? It takes a particular kind of employee (change agent) who wants to step into a challenging situation and lead Tredegar out of it.

First, Tredegar desperately needs to invest in R&D.
Second, hire new blood passionate about improving the organization, making it better versus rehiring former alum who possess the mentality "It has always been done this way" - the 7 most expensive words in business. Sadly, the majority of progressive, forward thinking employees either left of their own accord or got canned speaking up against the status quo.

Stop selling prospective candidates on the concept of change if you have no intention of doing so. The financial consultant you paid big bucks to analyze the health of the organization referred to it as not a downward spiral, but a "Death Spiral." Still rooting for you to make a comeback.

    Pros

Fairly stable, average benefits, average salaries

    Cons

Conservatively managed, backward, not forward thinking. Will have a difficult time attracting talent due to their regressive practices and rigid structure.

    Advice to Management
