I worked at Tri County Mental Health Services (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Loved the co-workers that I had and the real care that employees had for each other. Provided lots of opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Senior Leadership sometimes struggled to manage during turbulent external environments, in part because clinical leadership didn't seem to have a clear vision.

    Advice to Management

Stay mission-driven. Continue to build up employees and their skills.

I worked at Tri County Mental Health Services full-time

    Pros

My coworkers and the office staff were great

    Cons

The focus was not on the kids, but documenting enough for billing. Little education/support to help kids be successful in school, get access to services, etc., it was very sad. They changed insurance plans, blamed it on the "# folks who had surgeries, etc.," it was hard to feel valued or feel they were really invested in you. Families were not getting the support they should have gotten.

    Advice to Management

Be the example, value your employees, fund raise, build a strong community presence, help educate schools/community to reduce stigma of mental health and get access to needed supports and services. You are a community agency, act like it, be present, training schools/teachers, parents, and others. Value your employees....the lack of longevity tells you everything...employees need your support

I worked at Tri County Mental Health Services full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The agency helps people with severe mental illness.
    The work makes a difference.
It used to be a great place to work.

    Cons

The agency eliminated effective programs and dumped long term clients. There is no agency mission anymore. They see front line staff as disposable. Administration micromanages but then doesn't follow through.

    Advice to Management

Get focused on the mission. If Section 17 is dead why are other agencies still doing it successfully? If long term staff left but the program still isn't making it maybe the problem wasn't the staff.

    Pros

The clinical staff are well educated and top-notch. The support staff are very friendly and helpful. The services offered are fairly comprehensive.

    Cons

The management team including executive team, Human Resources, and Mid-level management. There is a major disconnect between clinical staff and management.

    Advice to Management

Rework the salary structure. Take employee feedback to heart and make changes to the basic structure of the delivery of clinical services especially in reworking the electronic record. After leaving TCMHS I have clients tell me everyday that the main reason they left was because they didn't feel heard by their provider; that their provider was required and mostly interested in putting in required data into the record/computer.
