I worked at Tribune Media as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

I worked in corporate IT. That organization has experienced several significant management changes in the past 5 years.
I had the opportunity to work with current technology from VMware, NetApp, Infoblox, PURE, Cohesity and others. Two of the tenured staff were some of the best people that you could ever work with.

    Cons

In the last 6 month the CEO has announced his departure. Nearly the entire IT team from the CTO down has been replaced. The new team lack vision. Leadership is more interested in cutting costs than optimizing ROI on IT resources. The CTO and VP's beneath him are ALL new to their positions, most less than 3 months. The CTO has abdicated responsibility for strategy and operations to the new VP's and they are all relying upon two engineers, one new and one tenured for guidance and direction. The fox is ruling the hen house....

    Advice to Management

People Matter! Pay attention to those who are serving the best interest of the company and carefully manage those who have their own best interests at heart.

I worked at Tribune Media part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun workplace, no micro-management, flexible hours, good place to start for aspiring media enthusiasts.

    Cons

Reputation for not being able to keep their employees: low pay, little room for growth, unprofessional and ineffective management. No HR rep on site.

Supervisors with abusive language, negative attitude, treating employees with little respect or playing favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Be more personable to employees, review supervising staff, these could be the reason why the station is not moving forward

    Pros

Good Pay, OK Benefits (vacation for example), 401k match, good location in Chicago (although with the sale of TT this may be temporary)
