I have been working at Trident Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Trident Medical Center is increasingly becoming the hospital-of-choice for the North Charleston, SC region. There are many opportunities to start and extend a career as the hospital expands services. Current hospital leadership is exceptional.

    Cons

Cafeteria could offer better and more food options.

    Advice to Management

Continue creating a caring environment even the hospital's popularity grows.

The people at Trident take great pride in caring for their patients. The staff are very friendly. Administration is very supportive of the nurses, and seems to really care.

    Cons

The cafeteria has limited hours and few healthy options.

    Advice to Management

We need healthier food options that actually taste good.

I worked at Trident Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Close to my residence and well, that's about it. Well, I have to put 20 Words on this. So, I guess it's close to some good food establishments.

    Cons

The majority of the ER Nurses are rude and do not care about the patients. They talk about every patient that walks in the door and laugh about them over their radio/headset. The clinical staff in the ER also have their own Soap Opera going on because they're all sleeping with one another and then hating one another the next day. It's nearly impossible to get a nurse to answer a call bell for a patients ER room. There are a few (maybe 5 or 6) ER nurses who are actually great at what they do and stay out of the drama.

The nurses & other clinical staff in the ER treat other departments like trash. If I'm not mistaken, I believe all employees are supposed to follow the code of conduct and treat other employees with respect. Well, that's definitely not happening here. Don't bother voicing your concern in a professional manner and trying to improve departmental communication. You'll just get your hand slapped and it won't be confidential, as promised.

Not sure where to even start with upper management. I've seen mediocre management in other Patient Access areas, but in the ER, support from your Manager and Director are basically non-existent. Don't bother asking them for advice or training on anything. It doesn't help and you'll only get chewed out for not doing something a few weeks later anyway, even though they know you have no training on the matter at hand.

I've worked in a few healthcare facilities previously and I've never seen such chaos and lack of compassion and care. I've worked places where I knew I was getting the best care available, but after working here, I tell my family to pass by this hospital if they ever need to bring me in.

If you interview here and leave with an amazing, promising feeling, just give it some time. Most things that seem too good to be true, usually are. Beware!!!!!!!

    Advice to Management

Find a new line of work. Obviously, this one isn't working for you.

    Pros

Amazing coworkers, teamwork is excellent, management works hard to recognize and reward staff for their hard work, leadership recognizes areas for opportunity and are striving to make positive changes

    Cons

Meditech electronic medical record makes documentation a nightmare. Patient medical records are often incomplete and/or inaccurate due to the rigidity of the archaic system.
The hospital is often full, leading to unsafe situations in ER. Inpatients are boarded in ER while new ER patients continuing to arrive.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the hard work you're doing to improve processes. Please push for a change from Meditech to a more user-friendly and reliable EMR.
