I have been working at Trimont Real Estate Advisors full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The salaries are good but not great (former colleagues have received good-sized raises at new jobs) and the benefits are pretty good. The environment is family-friendly and most of the employees are nice folks. All in all, the culture is okay.

    Cons

Trimont Real Estate Advisors is a good company but could be a great company with more proactive executive leadership.

    Advice to Management

The company succeeds in spite of the lack of direction or communication from its principals because the company is full of very smart real estate professionals. The company leadership seems unaware of, or doesn't care about, the deep talent it has on its bench and seems content to let mid and upper level employees seek better opportunities elsewhere rather than nurturing and harnessing that talent in-house to pursue or develop new opportunities that would benefit the company.

I worked at Trimont Real Estate Advisors full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits. People are for the most part good people, dedicated to providing quality service.

    Cons

New leadership is arrogant and not in touch with the real business. Disappointed at the lack of understanding of our business. Company is becoming a pack of the CEO's buddies, and not the quality, experienced employees we used to have. So glad I left.

    Advice to Management

Take time to learn the business, don't recreate what is not broken. The clients we have are based on years of relationships and delivering service that far exceeds the competition. And stop hiring your buddies that have no experience.

    Pros

Good work-life balance, good intro to real estate.

    Cons

Stuck doing same things repeated. If you are entrepreneurial, this is not for you.

    Advice to Management

Train and develop the young talents.

    Pros

Great benefits, good culture, work life balance is attainable.
Trimont allows for a relaxed atmosphere, where employees are allowed some discretion in their time commitment. The culture is respectful towards its employees and positively benevolent.

    Cons

Below market salaries, uncertain future, few growth opportunities –Since the loss of the client Lehman Brothers, the firm has struggled to find comparably paying clients and is floundering with its identity. The firm originally focused on real estate complex finance, but now endeavors to do anything in the RE world from essentially property management to small balance collections. The firm is now focused defining its role in the commercial real estate space, but what that currently and succinctly is at the current time, I couldn’t say.

    Advice to Management

    Nail down a business plan

    Pros

Compensation and benefit package is above market.

    Cons

No career or professional growth opportunities.

    Advice to Management

In order to retain top quality employees, you have to provide career growth opportunities and equal treatment of employees.

The commercial real estate environment has taken a downturn

Current Employee - Financial Advisor in Atlanta, GA

    Pros

You will be exposed to a wide variety of assets and capital structures which is rare in an entry level position. There are a lot of young people in the financial analyst role, so if you are coming right out of college it is a fun place to work.

    Cons

Not a lot of growth potential and the work can become monotonous. I worked in the asset management department as an analyst and learned a lot, but it is a lot of number crunching.

    Advice to Management

Management was always good to its employees and treated them fairly. The benefits were great, but unfortunately this past year the company had to lay off a large number of employees.
