I have been working at Trinity College Dublin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Tax free stipdend, additional income for teaching assistant work, access to research facilities and research opportunities, gym, library.

    Cons

The department is a shambles. There isn't much organisation of post graduates or of lecturing duties. Much of the department is stuck in the past with curriculums not changing with the times. Depending on the supervisor PhD candidates tend to be given the short end of the stick in terms of availability of supervisor time, research expectations etc...

    Advice to Management

Prioritise reorganising everything from the ground up. The status quo always has the department playing catch up with no room for growth. Look at small things like organising desk space in the department, integrating PhD's into the life of the department and making sure that admin is sorted easily and fluidly.

    Pros

Autonomy, committed employees, chance to run with ideas/projects, good Work/Life balance.

    Cons

Slow to get changes through, some policies unnecessarily complex, senior management don't show same level of interest in Administration staff compared to Academic staff.

I worked at Trinity College Dublin full-time

    Pros

Great location. Great atmosphere. Great societies. Libraries have an excellent collection of books and facilities. Sports resources are great too.

    Cons

Poor resources. Poor administration. Poor engagement with students. Can be expensive to get lunch around Trinity. On campus restaurants and cafes are poor.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your students. Stop running the college like a corporation. Support the arts as much as you support science.

    Pros

On campus employment allows me to work and study at the same time.
    Staff is always very welcoming.
Environment and colleagues are very respectful.

    Cons

The main setback of working with Trinity College Dublin is the month after method of payment for work done. This means that you will only get paid for the work you have done this month, at the end of the following month.

    Advice to Management

    Revise the employee payment method.
Create more opportunities to progress within the job.
Make it easier for students to know if there are any job vacancies.

I have been working at Trinity College Dublin as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Trinity attracts a lot of talented individuals, so working alongside these people is probably the biggest pro.

    Cons

Unfortunately it does not recognize or appreciate many of these individuals. I've seen many people become incredibly disenfranchised through working here, and I've seen many people leave.

There are no financial benefits here.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the talented individuals that give you your reputation, and stop giving permanent contracts to morons who don't deserve it.
