I have been working at Trinity Health full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Mission; work life balance (remote opportunities, depending on manager)

    Cons

High tolerance for underperforming staff and leaders; you may earn a 4.5% raise, but you’ll only get 2-3% regardless of performance (“because we are poor”); no bonuses (only director or above); no extras (eg gym, childcare, etc); every few years they eliminate the measly 3% 403b match (“because we are poor”); limited holidays (New Years day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, only thanksgiving day, only Christmas Day); very... limited management support for career development and interns growth

    Advice to Management

Get the financial house in order so you can afford to be fair to/keep/develop good employees; get “The Bobs” into HR and let them go to town; eliminate “this is how we’ve always done it”

I have been working at Trinity Health full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pay is at the higher end, ability to work from home is what keeps most people there, some really great people to work with, getting better at ensuring the technology is up to date. Prior to the merger, this was an awesome place to work, folks were on track to move up in titles and increase their skill sets.

    Cons

Since merger with CHE workloads are increasing, staff levels are shrinking, morale is decreasing, no opportunity for growth (especially for women, unless on the help desk side of things), and promotion plans are being ignored, delayed or cancelled. No overtime pay, on-call is required for most teams and for the mission-critical teams on-call is absolute hell. Management appears to be of the mindset to "whip the... horses until they are dead, then replace with fresh ones". Work-life balance is non-existent, expect to be called when on vacation. Expect to have your health impacted and management won't care. Lots of favoritism around training and technical conferences, only the "golden boys" get to go and no cross-training happens from the ones who do go. There's a lot of talk about "resilience" and "work-life balance", but it's all talk, no fall thru. Any physical issues caused by the workload or sleep interruptions due to on-call are written off as HR has deemed all stress as being a "mental health" issue and you'll be advised to do yoga to de-stress.

    Advice to Management

Really listen to the staff, especially around on-call. People are afraid to speak up for fear of losing their jobs. Pay attention to how often your staff takes time off after an on-call rotation simply to recover. Increase staffing, increase training opportunities, allow staff to provide feedback on all levels of management, not just immediate and executives. For mission-critical teams have staffing similar to the... help desk where's there's coverage 24x7 without on-call rotations. Your staff is burning out and no amount of yoga will make up for the overload of work that you continue to dump on your workers.
