I worked at Trinity Industries (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company gives great opportunity for advancement and self improvement and many will show their appreciation for your efforts, even if not your direct supervisor.

    Cons

Despite Company policies, sometimes there are still issues of favoritism being shown among supervisors and employees that if not careful can end up destroying a career. With the company being so large, many of these can go unnoticed.

    Advice to Management

With so many of the leaders being too busy to address properly, think any employee conflicting issues brought to the attention of a supervisor should be turned over to HR to investigate further

    Pros

    - Bonus structure and compensation.
    - It's like a small family.
    - Nice company to start your career with.
    - New ideas are welcomed.

    Cons

    - Less traveling and exposure if you are at the plant level (not for everyone).
    - Not many chances to climb up the ladder at plant level, could be a different case in corporate.

    Advice to Management

    - Some managers need to get out of the "If it ain't broke, why fix it" mentality.
    - Less micromanagement.

I have been working at Trinity Industries full-time

    Pros

    Good compensation and benefits
You can experiment and test your ideas
    Great people
    Flexibility in work
Lot or TRIBAL knowledge. (hindering progress )

    Cons

GOOD 'OL BOY NETWORK RUNS DEEP.

Still old fashioned welding and grinding. Need more automation

Major gap in Plant and Corporate alignment. Superficial.

Job responsibilities are not clearly defined and thus are taken advantage of. You will be expected to do anything or everything

Growth opportunities are almost none at plant level.

Lack of information and best practice sharing among plants. They all work as separate entities.

    Advice to Management

Implement better KPIs for plant performances. Current metrics(high emphasis on efficiency) does little to throughput. Other metrics are measured but no one cares.

They don't care about their floor workers and everybody get's treated like they are inconsequential. They shut down our factory and we basically got a so long see you later. It was worthless.

    Advice to Management

Quit hiring family and friends into upper management. Make sure someone not only has the qualifications to be a leader but also has good reviews from the ones underneath them.
