I have been working at TripAdvisor full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

CEO, Steve, is a really good guy and sets a tone of decency and hard work. New building and lunch, gym etc all help with convenience of a work day. Work (finance) is very interesting and challenging.

    Cons

With some of the recent growth challenges the worst of politics at VP levels is emerging. Management is in severe CYA mode. Bad attitudes of "me me me", lack of respect and direction is prevalent. Start-up mentality of focus on the job at hand is fast asleep.

    Advice to Management

Eradicate political BS as innovation will not be possible. Inspire your people vs motivate thru punishment/reward. Good luck!

I have been working at TripAdvisor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - good benefits scheme (healthcare, dental, company parties, well being allowance)
    - relatively low-stress environment
    - flexibility: most teams allow members to work from home/work remotely regularly (on average 1-2 days a week).

    Cons

    - career progression: if you work outside of the hotels category - difficult to progress or grow your careers. so, you should be happy with your current position and do not count on progressing as its very difficult to do.
    - great benefits for new fathers, full canteen.
    - many key decisions driven out of the US - so during times of uncertainty and significant company changes you will feel able to influence.

    Advice to Management

    - Find a way to keep and promote our best talent.

I have been working at TripAdvisor full-time

    Pros

Beautiful office, free food/gym, and good salaries... As every other one said

    Cons

As a long-time employee, I hate to give trip such a low rating. It used to be a great place to work, when the company is much smaller, and the office is less shinny. However, the culture has drastically changed.

The management is terrible, making it such a stressful place to work. Creativity is not encouraged; process takes forever and gets blocked by endless design reviews; false urgency is created to push employee to work over time; blaming and micromanagement are what mid-managements do.

I worked at TripAdvisor as a contractor

    Pros

    Amazing building, beautiful spaces
    Great free lunch
    Friendly coworkers, mostly interesting events
    Good benefits (so I've heard)

    Cons

Not up to speed with other modern tech companies
Little investment in employees and contractors, difficult to advance and move around
Some departments are, by nature, extremely boring
Engineers treated as gods, everyone else not as much

    Advice to Management

Look at other tech companies' structure and work culture - why are you stuck in the mid-2000's? Features feel rolled out at breakneck speed (that don't always "win"). The benefits are so good, there are tons of contract workers who feel devalued and who rotate out soon enough. Cultivating loyalty and career advancement might pay out in the long run.

    Pros

Great vibe, nice people, beautiful office.

    Cons

Immature management, didn't fully introduce the employee benefit for the contractor.

    Advice to Management

Shouldn't use unprofessional online tool to judge staff's performance. Shall adjust the strategic for different countries market.

    Pros

work life balance where no one stays after 6pm usually
    friendly colleagues

    Cons

Management are not listening and have no visibility in the local teams
The HR is strangely unhelpful to all the employees in the office. Something that the management should pay attention to.

I have been working at TripAdvisor full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, good work/life balance, free food, free gym, beautiful office with snacks, free shuttle if you don't want to drive, and a laid back culture that rarely fires anyone.

    Cons

Layers and layers of approval for the smallest decisions, with each layer contradicting the layer above it. Managers do not know how to manage - a lot of micro-management. The concept and practice of mentorship do not exist because managers have never been exposed to that themselves. This is not a place to stretch your wings or learn to be the best-in-class, this is a place to relax, especially if you have children. It's perfect for the right person with not a lot of ambition.

    Advice to Management

Stop micro-managing. Start letting your employees do their job instead of micro-managing them. And if they consistently do a bad job, just fire them.
