    Pros

Smart, happy and reliable coworkers. Your voice gets heard. Great benefits

    Cons

kind of slow advancement. Sun in my eyes

    Advice to Management

Darken the windows. The sun can be blinding if you sit near one.

I worked at TripAdvisor full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great Benefits, free food, insurance.
    - Friendly co workers and good work life balance

    Cons

    - Moving across the company is hard as most of the openings are for passive roles not active ones.
    - The company doesn't invest in employees learning as the CEO has speed wins motive.

    Advice to Management

You don't hire smart people to tell what to do, you should hire smart people so that they can tell you what to do. Management needs to improvise on listening as the communication is only one way.

I worked at TripAdvisor as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

They clearly went out of their way to make the internship program a fun experience. There were multiple outings to see the city and do community service, along with an internal hackathon where we got to work on self-directed group projects for a week. Great food every day at lunch, snacks on every floor -- like working in a startup, except with job security and 1500 other people.

    Cons

As an intern, I felt a little undermanaged. They had a "buddy" program to match each intern with a mentor, but there weren't any explicit requirements of what that mentor did (or there didn't seem to be). I would've appreciated getting more feedback about my work.

    Advice to Management

Force the engineers to do more managing! Something like a set of pre-determined questions and critiques at a regular interval would've gone a long way. I had to reach out for feedback, which felt like I was wasting my mentor's time -- if it had been built into their schedule, things probably would've been smoother.

I worked at TripAdvisor (More than a year)

    Pros

you get paid, that's it. Cannot think of anything good about the team. I am not talking about the company i am talking about teams.

    Cons

The so called new hire team rotation does not exist at all! When they hire they give such option. However once you are placed in a team, you are dead.

    People:
In the whole year we have only one team lunch(no outing at all), all my manager knows is to stand behind people and asking how's it going. Those nerds in my team never know how to have a life. All they talk about is go home and watch cartoon. and they are pool on communucation with others, all cynic.
When I ask how to find sth or can you give me a demo, they would say go google.

    Technology:

They never know how old their technology is . Java for websites, not willing to use new stuffs. You cannot find spark/ nosql/ redis/ docker/ whatever is industrial standard now.

They use SOAP, HTML, Spring, all kinds of dead limbo stuffs.

Managers generally come for 3 years then leave. No one cars about long term profit.

    Stocks:

Company miss market for 3 times now it is only $50, the revenue is even lower than 2014. I cannot think of any future.

    Promotion:

Great people leaves. My best body at the team not at google and I am at another big company. When we reunion and talked, we both agree that manager does not know how to promote right people. Salary raise cannot even counter inflation. People's title does not even change after 3 years.

    Energy:

I can only see people in their 40s in manaqer position, which makes the whole company not enegertic at all.

    Advice to Management

Think about how to pick proper managers

    Pros

Flexibility in time and location of work
    Fast paced
    Operates like s startup
    Minimal politics
    Collaborative environment
Processes are open to change and improvement without a ton of red tape

    Cons

    Fast paced
Collaborative, but each teams decisions can easily influence other teams, so communication is key
Teams are highly distrusted across US and Canada

I worked at TripAdvisor as an intern

    Pros

Very nice, helpful people. Free lunch. As an intern, I really wasn't treated as one, I was given full-time projects to work on, which is great! I learned a lot.

    Cons

The "speed wins" philosophy may not suit all engineers: leads too somewhat messy codes

I have been working at TripAdvisor full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Neat benefits, awesome coworkers, good work-life balance.
CEO is great and approachable, some levels of upper management are really good and easily accessible.

    Cons

Could give back to the engineering community (open sourcing).
Sometimes, feature development takes precedence as it helps revenue but at the cost of bad engineering.
Have encountered that one bad apple too.

    Advice to Management

Product Managers need to understand platforms before developing features on those platforms. Mobile apps need refined experience.
