I have been working at Tronox as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are all right.

    Cons

Management people don't know what they are doing and they don't what do any changes at all. Site is aging. No documents.

    I worked at Tronox full-time

    Pros

    Good pay. Great work/life balance.

    Cons

Incompetent management has led to very low morale with subsequent impact on job performance. Reliance on contractors to fill in for knowledge gaps in management. Competent employees are ignored and demeaned. If you aren't a chemical engineer you're nobody.
Company is for sale and employees are questioning job stability.

    Advice to Management

Do you really need a management team in Philly for an 800 person workforce in Green River Wyoming? Dump the top tier and let the people who know what they are doing run the show. Offer leadership and management training. Look at morale and the impacts the lowered morale is having on safety and production.

I have been working at Tronox full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good base pay, but no bonuses or raises.

    Cons

Ruled by a culture of fear and intimidation. No real interest in the health and well being of employees. Management is inept and closed off to experience brought in from outside. Employees constantly in fear of losing their jobs for the smallest infraction. The facilities are in terrible condition meanwhile the focus of management is almost entirely on punishment of employees for "behavior". Avoid this company at all costs!

    Pros

Decent pay, medical, vacation, 401K...all OK.

    Cons

If greed is your motivation in life, this place might be a perfect fit for you. Management leads with fear, make a mistake, say the wrong word, look the wrong direction take an opposing view to upper management, and your out. To complicate matters as a "Front Line Supervisor" you must be ready to deal with a Union that is among the worst in the nation...if they don't like you your out, and if management does not like you, your out. Your between the rock and the hard place in the ground. They motivate you and the union workers with fear of job loss and micro management in an economy that is hurting and jobs hard to find...but the union has lawyers to fight for them, but as a supervisor, your on your own. It's like having the KGB around, trust nobody and I mean nobody. The rumor mill is the worst I have ever experienced and your back at times has a huge X to mark the spot. Management has knee jerk reactions to situations without giving it much thought...its like a dictatorship. Your assimilate like the Borg in Star Trek.

    Advice to Management

There is a difference between leadership and dictator style management. Study your history about great leaders and you will find the difference. Fear is not the same as accountability, and your so called training, you prepare no one for this experience you toss them to the wolves and hope they make it. Stop trusting your contract advisors who compare you to companies who budget and invest to improve and make them world class...your not Ford Motor, GM, Dodge, GE, ALCOA or Microsoft...and many of these companies had or have some great leaders. If what you say about the people is correct, try and connect because the disconnect is killing us. You have potential to be great, and it cost a ton money to be great in business. Leadership starts from the top down and you do very little to sell your vision to the people who work for you. Its might sound good to the share holders and board members as you pay dividends to your investors...but it does zip for the moral of your people. Remember he who barrows money will serve the lender. This is not about disgruntled feelings, this this about disappointment in the leadership.
