I have been working at Troon Golf full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with on the facility level. Promotions always offered to hard workers. Largest golf course management company in world.

    Cons

Corporate team struggles to retain employees in key departments. Turnover is insane. In 6 years I've watched the company go from being all about its employees and employee growth, to all about driving its employees to do more than they possibly can. I've watched top level management become bitter, taking it out on associates. At one point, you could ask for advice. Now you ask for advice and you get a "why don't you already know that" answer, followed by ridicule in another area. Some of the best top level leaders in the company have left in the past two years, which paints the picture of a company ready to sell or become surpassed by competition.

    Advice to Management

Go back to empowering your associates on the ground level and try to understand what they are going through on a daily basis. Don't just dump more and more corporate programs on their lap. Be good at what made you good in the first place, and that is quality. Quantity might make for good pr, but I can assure you the teams on the ground are now just average at all of these programs, not insanely good at a few like the past. Put some effort back into your management teams and reap the rewards. Don't invest in folks that are near retirement. Invest in the younger managers that will carry the company into then future.

I worked at Troon Golf full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay but below market. That was the best pro I could find with this company because there was not any more pros

    Cons

Too many hours for the pay, management doesn't care about employees, Human Resources does nothing to protect employees, no leadership, doesn't follow federal and state guielines

    Advice to Management

Keep quality employees, get quality management, don't promote friends, learn guidelines for business per state and federal guidelines

I have been working at Troon Golf part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Yearly training and certifications. Work in an upscale restaurant environment. Benefits include golf and gym privileges. Ability to promote.

    Cons

18% gratuity included on all chits. When members see this charge they rarely tip extra. We rarely leave with cash tips.

    Advice to Management

Promote within. I think we should have bi-yearly training and wine guidance as well as food training every time we change up the menu. I would also like more transparency for how the gratuities are divided.

    Pros

Troon is a big company, it really depends what course you work for.

    Cons

Troon being a big company, it again depends what course you work for. Its a double edged sword.

    Advice to Management

Don't auto enroll employees in 401K program.

I worked at Troon Golf full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I met a few good people in the corporate office other than that there's not a lot of good things about working there.

    Cons

They won't pay to get qualified management in support departments so they're being run by managers and above who aren't able to do their jobs effectively. I specifically think this is true for payroll and HR. They can't get anyone to stay in those departments because they are completely mismanaged and no one cares enough to do anything about it.

    Advice to Management

Take a good look at your management who are running support functions. When good employees are leaving their must be a reason why. Also, you may want to consider paying for quality people.

I worked at Troon Golf full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Only 20 mins from home.
Near the outlet shopping center, casino & Raw Hide
Which was good for my second job as an Uber driver.

    Cons

    Management is abhorrent at best.
Zero appreciation for the hardworking staff.
Managers sit in their office and stalk employees social media.
You will get written up if you say anything negative about work.
If you launch a complaint to HR, they will cut your hours to force you out.
They make up rules as they go and see fit.
Preferential treatment to those who cow tow and suck up.
There is definitely a "good ol boy" system here.
Your department co-workers will play nice to your face but they all talk about you behind your back. This happens in every department. Tried to stay clear of it. Unfortunately witnessed it. Girls in F&B all play nice but I saw multiple occasions where they were crying to manager about each other. They talk badly about each other behind back. The guys in Guest Services are even worse. They will talk crap, lie about your performance and effort to managers and others in an effort to make themselves look better. Guest what, YOU'RE STILL SCRUBBING CLUBS GUYS! The "Managers" are probably the worst about this though. They bad mouth employees among themselves (walked in on it many times) and they bad mouth employees to other subordinates. Not professional at all.
WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY ENTIRE CAREER!
They will give you a hard time about wanting to play other Troon courses. They make rules that your guest have to tip XYZ for playing but no other department has a policy. (Not a written policy)
The list goes on and on. Stay away from the Whirlwind property at all costs.

    Advice to Management

You don't care. I spoke with managers several times. Nothing was ever done or even addressed. What a joke. You shouldn't be allowed to run a bus stop let alone a golf course.

I have been working at Troon Golf full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

#1 Employee Satisfaction Rating course in all of Troon Golf and it's pretty apparent why that is. Management is outstanding and truly cares about their staff and professional development. Truly pushes you to be your best and rewards those who put in the effort. Promotes and values continuing education for employees, and numerous former employees have been promoted to be GM's, Head Pro's, Dir. of Golf, etc at other facilities in the company. Compensation is very good and fair. Since the Club is one of the busiest in Troon, tipped employees also tend to make more than if they were at other facilities. Free golf to all employees as well!

    Cons

None really. This is a fantastic place to work. The Club has been awarded Troon Facility of the Year twice. There are numerous employees in all departments who have worked at the Club 5-10+ years because they love it so much. Incredible work environment and culture.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing. If you want to succeed in Troon, this is the place to be. Management lays out the gameplan for what it takes and puts you on the path for success. Put in the years of experience and education, and the world is yours because you earned it.
