I worked at Troon Golf full-time

    Pros

Corporate office gets out at 2 p.m. in the summer and dress is very casual.

    Cons

Corporate has some very ineffective/incompetent leaders and they compensate, not by a good manager trainee program/holding them accountable, but rather increasing head count. Therefore, the problems they have are there to stay. They need to invest in better software so they don't need so many people to do the job. Salaries are all over the map. No internal controls.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the dead wood. You have way too much of it. Run more efficiently. More people does not a more successful business make. Make the employees more accountable. Stop protecting low performers.

I worked at Troon Golf full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I met a few good people in the corporate office other than that there's not a lot of good things about working there.

    Cons

They won't pay to get qualified management in support departments so they're being run by managers and above who aren't able to do their jobs effectively. I specifically think this is true for payroll and HR. They can't get anyone to stay in those departments because they are completely mismanaged and no one cares enough to do anything about it.

    Advice to Management

Take a good look at your management who are running support functions. When good employees are leaving their must be a reason why. Also, you may want to consider paying for quality people.

I worked at Troon Golf full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Only 20 mins from home.
Near the outlet shopping center, casino & Raw Hide
Which was good for my second job as an Uber driver.

    Cons

    Management is abhorrent at best.
Zero appreciation for the hardworking staff.
Managers sit in their office and stalk employees social media.
You will get written up if you say anything negative about work.
If you launch a complaint to HR, they will cut your hours to force you out.
They make up rules as they go and see fit.
Preferential treatment to those who cow tow and suck up.
There is definitely a "good ol boy" system here.
Your department co-workers will play nice to your face but they all talk about you behind your back. This happens in every department. Tried to stay clear of it. Unfortunately witnessed it. Girls in F&B all play nice but I saw multiple occasions where they were crying to manager about each other. They talk badly about each other behind back. The guys in Guest Services are even worse. They will talk crap, lie about your performance and effort to managers and others in an effort to make themselves look better. Guest what, YOU'RE STILL SCRUBBING CLUBS GUYS! The "Managers" are probably the worst about this though. They bad mouth employees among themselves (walked in on it many times) and they bad mouth employees to other subordinates. Not professional at all.
WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY ENTIRE CAREER!
They will give you a hard time about wanting to play other Troon courses. They make rules that your guest have to tip XYZ for playing but no other department has a policy. (Not a written policy)
The list goes on and on. Stay away from the Whirlwind property at all costs.

    Advice to Management

You don't care. I spoke with managers several times. Nothing was ever done or even addressed. What a joke. You shouldn't be allowed to run a bus stop let alone a golf course.

I worked at Troon Golf full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

My paycheck never bounced - but it was always wrong (and not in a way that works in your favor)
You will think its a great company for about 2 months
When you leave the company people think Troon was a great place that gave you wonderful experience

    Cons

Nothing ever gets done in a timely manner
Terrible communication from top to bottom
    Horrible take-over strategy
Disconnect from corporate to individual golf clubs
CEO is not actually a CEO - I suggest you do a little digging on that
Consistently make errors on your paycheck
    Management structure is a joke
Sexual harassment/assault complaints are not taken seriously

    Advice to Management

    Restructure, restructure, restructure

Be more careful who you put into management positions

At the very least, make sure people pick up the phone and return calls and email at the corporate office

I have been working at Troon Golf (More than a year)

    Pros

    Free golf, meals, and uniforms.

    Cons

Educated employee's are looked down upon by supervisor's who have little or no education; 'slacker' employee's are rewarded; hard working employee's are expected to continue to work hard and then some; supervisor's talk to other subordinates about other subordinates.

    Advice to Management

Corporate will wise up one day and discover that you (management) are not doing your job and that you can no longer favor certain employee's just because they 'do you favors'.

I have been working at Troon Golf full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I cannot see any other than adding ink to my resume

    Cons

Low pay, terrible benefits, micro managed to death, inhumane treatment, ignored by upper management if you're not FNB or Golf, alleged career opportunities are a joke including transfers unless you're a GM or Golf Superintendent, good salesmen that lied from the start of taking this project over. Did I mention the low compensation?

    Advice to Management

Stop ignoring your mid level staff. We have ideas and could be valuable assets instead of a number which you want to replace with cheaper and less qualified labor. If you were serious about this career opportunity listing you brag about, try updating it and not leaving openings from last year on it to make it look impressive. If you actually cared about retention and promotion, give these people a chance to succeed.

I have been working at Troon Golf full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you like discounted Golf at high-end facilities, this is the place to work. If you need to find a job fast and you have low standards, you'll be hired immediately. If you are up for an almost impossible challenge and more stress than it's worth, this is the place to be.

    Cons

Free golf is a thing of the past. Turnover is unbelievable. Compensation is worse. Eductation reimbursement? Ha.

    Advice to Management

Start holding yourselves and those beneath you (us) accountable again. Believe it or not, the idea was working...until you let a certain 'someone' leave the company, or rather - he was forced out.

I have been working at Troon Golf full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Club members are wonderful.
    Free golf on Mondays.
    Plenty of available work.
Free swimming, although one Monday per month only.

    Cons

Both club and corporate managers do not trust their hourly staff.
    Rampant over staffing.
Troon does not have such thing as "anonymous employee complaints" and punishes staff for contacting corporate with issues in need of resolving.
    High employee turnover rates.
Management provides a hostile work environment, constant breathing-down-your-neck.
Club managers only reward employees who bring in the most money, they disregard all else.
Troon skimps off 2-3% of automatic tips/ gratuities for "club expenses".
    No raises are given.
Unless you are a manager, to Troon: you are worthless, you are replaceable, you are a potential thief, you don't know anything and you are their property.

    Advice to Management

If you do not make your hourly employees happy and treat them poorly, your business will take a nosedive.
