I worked at Tropical Smoothie Cafe part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sweet general manager fun, upbeat, busy environment

    Cons

The other managers and workers seem to be in a clique, there was lots of disorganization problems in management

    Advice to Management

I would work on cleanliness such as hand washing policies because many employees simply never washed their hands, work on making the smoothie station cleaner and neater especially areas that customers can see.

I have been working at Tropical Smoothie Cafe part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get discounts off of stuff while you're working (50% off) and while you're not too(20% off). Everyone working there is nice

    Cons

Can be very fast pace and busy one hour and dead the next. The company often adds and gets rid of items. The same 20 or so pop songs are played on repeat from a tv station and after a while I started feeling mentally sick every time I heard a song that played while I worked.

    Advice to Management

Give raises to people who really know what they are doing and have been there for a while, if you do you'll keep some great employees. Give your employees their tips on time please. Don't make a trainee's shifts closing shifts until they know what they're doing. Switch up the radio station every once in a while please.

I worked at Tropical Smoothie Cafe part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get paid and free smoothies(there filled with sugar) and you get tips. You meet new people and get to meet nice customers

    Cons

No breaks and they ask a lot for very little pay and there labor rate is 17% so you'll always be under staffed at least in the Las Vegas area

    Advice to Management

Maybe pay a little more and hire more people and raise the labor rate a little more. So customers don't get mad at us for being under staff as always

I worked at Tropical Smoothie Cafe part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get a lot of regulars and it's really fun interacting with and getting to know them.
The food is delicious and the discounts are nice!
It's a pretty youthful staff, which can be good and bad.
Definitely a team environment where everyone helps each other do their part.
Great with scheduling, this was a really good job to have while in school.

    Cons

Not a lot of room to move up in the franchise.
Big culture (at least in mine) of gossip and quarreling between staff members.

I worked at Tropical Smoothie Cafe full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Co workers become more like family, easy job once you get the hang of it, opportunities for promotions, healthy and fun place to work, flexible schedules.

    Cons

Bad management styles, lots of corporate involvement even though they are clueless half the time about what is actually going on, lots of young workers, drama, etc.

    Advice to Management

Require your managers to actually have management experience.

I worked at Tropical Smoothie Cafe full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great environment, awesome owners! I was happy to come to work every day and face any challenges presented. It was a pleasant environment with a lot of opportunity to advance if you worked hard.

    Cons

I had performed the role of a manager long before I was given the raise to match. There is a high turn over rate and it's hard to find good team members who want to work hard.

    Advice to Management

Treat those employees who work hard well so that they end up staying with the company. There is a lot of great talent out there that ends up leaving due to long waits for raises.

I worked at Tropical Smoothie Cafe full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

learn how to make smoothies, coworkers likely to turn into friends

    Cons

management horrible, little to no schedule flexibility, understaffed, no breaks

    Advice to Management

Don't try to be an owner and a manager. Especially when your employees are doing the management work you don't want to deal with and not getting paid enough to be doing that. Actually have enough people working so that if someone doesn't show up, everyone else gets screwed over. No new employees were trained, we had to "train" them.

I worked at Tropical Smoothie Cafe part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    The free smoothies were nice.

    Cons

Everything else. We are literally understaffed all the time in order to meet the 17% labor requirement. Managers aren't properly or across the board trained so every store is run differently. Maintenance was never done on time and everything broke after being fixed. When there were rushes during lunch we usually got yelled at a lot due to wait times because we only ever had 1 to 3 employees working at a time. I would suggest steering clear of this place in any of the Las Vegas locations at least. You can find a much better job somewhere else.

    Advice to Management

    Get new management.
