I have been working at Tropicana Casino And Resort full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Free cafeteria, friendly employees, high expectations lead to self-growth

    Cons

low pay, expensive health insurance, no 401K match, no tuition reimbursement, unpaid extra hours, lack of promotions, nepotism, managers have been there for years and yield little opportunity, managers are bosses - not leaders, yearly reviews based on universal evaluation that may not apply to your role, due to the region -many employees "just happy to have a job"

    Advice to Management

motivate and lead employees, offer a true incentive

I worked at Tropicana Casino And Resort full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Good tips, free lunch at the cafeteria, hour lunch, good coworkers

    Cons

Bad management, cafeteria food can be disgusting, sometimes mandatory 10 hr shifts or 6 days a week during the summer, schedule is not accomadating, requests days off are not guaranteed, call you on your days off, and ride guests at times

    Advice to Management

Managers need to be properly trained. My first group was amazing while the next group that replaced them had no idea how to operate. Streamline communication so everybody is on the same page. One manager tells you one thing, while another tells you to do something completely different. BETTER WORK LIFE BALANCE. Our lives shouldn't reflect on the front desk. Want to keep your employees? Fix those issues.

I worked at Tropicana Casino And Resort full-time for more than 20 years

      Pros

Being a part of company that thrived during the recession and continues to reinvent itself. New ownership believes happy crew happy guests. Property wide bonus when numbers are met. Its the people you work with that made you want to come to work.

      Cons

Although great work ethics are rewarded, awesome employee events, departmental restructuring can still reach even the dedicated great ones. Although its as place where you become great and leave to become greater, job security doesn't seem to be one of their priorities.

      Advice to Management

Even your challenging team members can become great employees when treated with respect and approached professionally when spoken to. Not what you say, how you say it. Team members act like kids when spoken as such. Severance pay would've been nice for those who put in the time and dedication to keep this property competitive.

I worked at Tropicana Casino And Resort full-time for more than 9 years

      Pros

The last of the original classic Las Vegas properties

      Cons

Replaced all of the staff that made the Trop so great! The bottom line was more important than those who weren't protected by a union. Very sad so many were put out during the financial crisis in 2008. Many of us have not yet recovered. The new Owner and management came in promising great changes. After the pep rally in June, we were all excited to be a part of the "All New Tropicana", then he lowered the ax and...

      Advice to Management

Shame on you New owner, (you know who you are) and all those who didn't stop the cold hearted thing you did to 1/2 of the employees that trusted you to let them continue to be a part of the new and improved Tropicana.
