    I worked at Tropicana Las Vegas full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    In 10 years my yearly income was decent. It's been renovated. Penn National seems to be a good company to work for. 401(k) reinstated. Hilton has a presence so we got room discounts for vacations. Decent PTO. Got full time quickly, but that was 10 years ago.

    Cons

    Clicks galore, as in any casino. Without a union to protect dealers, they keep on wanting more and giving the bare minimum. 9 owners in 9 years. After 10 years of loyalty, I was tossed away like yesterday's trash instead of helping me through a rough patch with their EAP (Employee Assistance Program). If problems arise, seek EAP before trouble gets too deep.

    Advice to Management

    When you are aware of problems an employee is having, offer help that's available. It's even suggested it's your duty to reach out. Especially when an employee has all great reviews from Customers and Supervisors alike,is loyal, never calls in, and hasn't had problems for the whole time employed. In other words...have a heart!

    Pay, location, experience in a strip casino

    Cons

    Poor benefits, immature management, unprofessional coworkers

    Change your management, they are not leaders, they are bullies.

    Pros

    The people at Trop are really nice and great to work with, but everyone is tired and trying to save a dying hotel. I wish them luck!

    Cons

    -Bad leadership
    -Stuffy way of seeing/planning the future
    -Lacking creativity
    -Afraid to take risks
    -Low pay for the amount of hours worked
    -No opportunity to grow
    -Alarmingly high turnover (if somebody hasn't left it's because they haven't been hired by anyone else)
    -The new company -- Penn Gaming -- is in way over its head

    Advice to Management

    -Be more open to employee commentary
    -Change it up and take risks
    -Be more creative
    -Try new things
    -All the other hotels are doing amazing work no matter how little their budget. Step it up or you won't last for much longer!

    Pros

    some of the employees here have been here for decades and so there is a real feeling of history and "old Las Vegas" - customers have been coming for decades too for this reason.

    Cons

    A lot of pressure from management for perfection

    Pros

    Everyone knows everyone and there is no wall between speaking to anyone. Guest are great.

    Cons

    So much potential. Hopefully will start being used properly. Marketing of the restaurants is atrocious. Rooms are sometimes too cheap. Most guest stay at Trop but do activities at other hotels

    Advice to Management

    Have to figure out a way of keeping guest doing activities on property. Somehow the restaurants aren't of value to customers or the customers simply do not know about them, therefore dine on other properties. On the outgoing surveys, ask where else have guest dined during their stay at Tropicana.

    Pros

    Customers are extremely satisfied. Management understands their employees. There is always potential to move through the ranks, and also to transfer to another department. Employees enjoy working there. The Team Member discounts there and at other properties are awesome too.

    Cons

    There is a good Full-time staff for the Security Department, but there needs to be at-least a few more per shift. Team Member Dining room has some of the worst food ever. They also don't coordinate with the food they put out. I think the company relies more on their "budget" (to include payroll) than what is good for their property.

    Advice to Management

    Upgrade the food in the TDR.

    Pros

    Owner was remodeling everything. The old building went through an incredible transformation. The lunch room staff always did their best to feed everyone. Great casino manager also.

    Cons

    Vice president of operations was a tyrant. She caused many good people to quit. She had no people skills and really brought moral down. It is tough enough to work in a place that is constantly changing to have an executive bullying the staff.

    Advice to Management

    Value your staff. Treat subordinates with respect. Have a clear plan for the future and don't sweat the small stuff where the staff will see you.
